From the inside dust cover...
Meet Detective Inspector Jack Spratt, family man and head of the Nursery Crime Division, long suffering under the shadow of the flashy Detective Friedland Chymes with his astonishing number of published cases in Amazing Crime Stories. Spratt is fresh from a spectacular failure to see convicted three wily pigs for the murder of a certain wolf. The media and tide of public opinion are set squarely against him. Now, new trouble is brewing.

Many of the things we've grown fond of in his writing are included in this beginning new series. For more on the series than you'll see in the book head on over to http://www.nurserycrime.co.uk/home.html. For the Special Features you will hve to enter the code word as directed, but you can't do that till you read the book! [Big Evil Grin!]

Prior to each chapter is a little piece to set your mood (or fool you!) for the chapter.

And then came Christmas...and tree decorations: the photo is one of the Hallmark ornaments that we purchased some time ago. Even before I joined BookCrossing I had a "Library Tree" with all sorts of bookish ornaments on it. It was a miniature tree no taller than two feet. I kept it in my den where a proper amount of dust first accumulates on my books.

I dunno...

I was utterly rotflol with the Thursday Next series and might even get the whole series later on. These were a great read and I might just want to review them again later.

Comparing those to this new series is probably unfair. There are many similarities in style of course and a lot of 'tongue in cheek' things you will pick up on if you have read the Thursday series.

Overall, I think it was 'fine'. Entertaining for sure, but I would have liked it to move on a little quicker. No regrets, though. It is off to Indiana early this week (Nov. 28th-ish)

A really cute book, and an enjoyable read. I do agree that I did not enjoy this book as much as the Eyre Affair, but Fforde's imagination more than carries this book.

Thanks for sending this along! I will *try* to mail this out before I head on vacation... best laid plans...

rec'd in the mail. woo hoo!

I liked this book a lot better than I liked the Eyre Affair, and the website for this book is cool (I even found the secret password to access the special features).
It was a very cool concept, and I think fans of Maguire would like this series. I cannot WAIT to read the next one.

This book arrived today!
I'm already a Jasper Fforde fan even though I've only read The Eyre Affair (two of the other Thursday Next books have been calling to me from my bookshelves, but I have had too many other high priority TBRs to read lately). I have been eagerly awaiting The Big Over Easy's arrival and I think I'm going to crack into it this evening.

Just an FYI ... the shipping seems to have already taken its toll on the book (the front cover is separating from the bookblock) so we're all going to have to be extra careful with him.

I finished this book last night and wrote a nice, long journal entry that I somehow managed to accidentally erase before it uploaded. *sigh*
In any case...

One simply cannot help but be impressed by Jasper Fforde's imagination.
I liked this book, but not as much as The Eyre Affair (which I just loved). Unfortunately for Fforde, everything he writes from here on in will be compared to his Thursday Next books. There's just no way around it.

The book dragged a bit in the middle, but all in all I really enjoyed it. It was entertaining and while I was reading I found myself scouring the back of my mind for memories of nursery rhymes.
I'm interested to see how this new series progresses and what wacky crimes will need to be investigated by the members of the Nursery Crime Division.

This book will be sent out to the next participant in the next couple of days.

Just received today. I have about 100 pages of my current book to go, then I'll dive right into this one! I can't wait.

I finished this last night and while I didn't devour it the way I did The Eyre Affair, I did find it charming. I especially liked Jack's family and the interactions between them. Overall, an enjoyable read and I'll probably give the next one a shot too.

I'll drop this in the mail to Luintaurien tomorrow.

Thanks so much for including me in the ring Rutchmather!
