The TV shows on which these critiques are based were presented between 1976-79. On the other hand, Clive James is as ascerbic and witty as ever.

Caught at Organic Food Festival. Really enjoyed this, but then, I was about thirty when these articles were published, so for me, they bring back memories of my young adulthood!

This book was just wonderful! Clive James is such a fantastic columnist and has a sense of humour quite unlike anything I have ever read before. I wasn't even born when the tv programmes he critiques were on but this doesn't matter - his wit is timeless and his sarcasm caustic.

Where I did know programmes - e.g. Tomorrow's World, Panorama, etc - it was even better.

Favourite quote came from his New Year column 1978 called "Underneath her Wimple". James discusses the institution that is 'The Sound of Music'. After setting up the story of Julie Andrews and her love interest he writes:
"and Christopher loves her in return, but he is plagued by the attentions of Eleanor Parker, who has nothing to offer him except wealth, breeding, wit and stunning beauty."
Which - when you think about it - is absolutely spot on!

Taken from the OBCZ at Hudsons; to add to the 10 million books I brought back with me from the Unconvention.

I'm very hopeful that this will have Clive James' critiques of Wimbledon in; they always gave us a big laugh in our house.
