Journal Entry 3 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, November 03, 2005
An alert this morning for a book released yesterday in a Starbucks on my route between station and the office? There was a slim chance it had been picked up, but I thought it unlikely. Surely it was more likely that the staff had tidied it away overnight, and had it ready for its owner to claim. Had to be worth a try, right? Went in this morning and enquired about whether a book had been found yesterday. The manager scuttled off into the back room and fetched this book otu - complete with its "I'm not lost!" sticker on the front; they really haven't got the hang of BookCrossing, there! At first glance, this really looks like the kind of book that wouldn't be my cup of tea; my first reaction was "I can drop it off at an official BookCrossing zone nearby, so at least someone can pick it up rather than it lying around in the back room of Starbucks." Having read silky-reading's comments about it being laugh-out-loud funny, though, I'm going to give it a go. That's the joy of BookCrossing - finding new books that we wouldn't have read in a million years if left to our own devices, and not having had to pay a penny if we don't like them after all, but being able to pass them on to someone more appreciative! --- While I was reading the first book in the omnibus, I decided to rerelease it without reading the other 2. It's quite funny, but slightly irritating, and the age of the story shows. There are only so many times I can read "he left his house, turned right down Thingy Avenue, turned left into Wotsit Road..." without gritting my teeth! However, I finished the first book mid-commute. So, I started the next. And by the time I was halfway through, I'd changed my mind, and stuck with it to the end. They were each good in their own way - but the irritating bits lessened in the later books.
