Yupi! Book arrived safe and sound today. This is the April selection of the Second Life book club. Thanks AJsmom for trading!
Insufferable. I tried, because this was for our book club meeting, but i just couldn't hack it. On page 122 I called it quits. The first thing that turned me off is the contrived format of the book. The story starts right on the front cover, continues on the inside cover, and keeps going like that. No room for the copyright, edition, etc, which are relegated to the very back of the book. There were other "cute" details, like photographs, cutout silhouettes, pages purposely left blank, and so on. But i tried to keep an open mind. Unfortunately, the narrative was excruciatingly slow, the characters were inexplicable, there were too many loose ends. Pages and pages were devoted to booking a plane ticket. This book was going nowhere, but i was going in a downward spiral towards despair. I was right: the photographs and silhouettes were nothing but crutches to support a huge flop.
RABCK to icekween01, who had this on Cliff''s list.

Happy Bookcrossing!
Started this one today but after looking over the journal entries I must admit I am a bit leery and fear that I may have an adverse reaction to it as well. Also, I am pretty sure that I have read another book by this author that I couldn't get through. I will have to go back and check to see but if this is the same author who wrote "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" which I absolutely HATED I don't hold out a lot of hope that I can stick with it. I am a little annoyed by it already and I am only on page 6. *sigh* I will keep trying.
I tried. This one was written by the same author as "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" and I just don't care for his writing style. It's very juvenile, lots of grammatical errors and just really uninteresting. blah. Not for me.

This came in the mail today. I *love* the binding and the first page being on the front cover. I look forward to giving this one a shot. THANX!!
The thing I liked best about this book was the format. It wasn't a bad book - not my style is all.
On its way to eastbaybookmisr as a RABCK
"Caught" in the mail today as a surprise piggyback RABCK! Thank you! Not on my Wishlist, but for some reason the author seems to be vaguely familiar, and at a glance it appears to be something that might be kinda right up my alley. Or not, we will see...
2002 McSweenys hardcover stated First Edition. Peculiar format of the book was already well-described above.
I can let this go after I read:
2001 A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius [read 2021]
Edit February 27, 2023: This was good, but I just skimmed to end for time. The format is peculiar, so a reader will be either confused or intrigued from the start. It's not a terribly long book, and not super thick, but for some reason, it is very heavy for its size. I think the pages are a bit extra dense, accounting for the surprising weight, which is another odd publishing decision that may be integral to the story, who knows. This copy is still in fair condition, just a bit bent and worn on the cover corners, but it's just not attractive, presumably originally without a dust jacket. The covers are just gray cardboard, and the spine is a black cloth, with difficult to read title print, so I really don't understand the intent of the original marketing of this edition. It just does not looks like anything that anybody would pick up to browse in curiosity. A buyer would have to remove any dust jacket to start reading right on the front cover, if it ever had a dust jacket. There is probably some web blog site explaining all this. I currently have this ranked at #2881 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.

The Big Tech cabal unfairly shadow-bans and twists a narrative agenda against real freedom truth-tellers like Anni, but please look her up anyway on Google, DuckDuckGo, and YouTube, etc., and make a compassionate judgment. You can also follow her on Facebook and Instagram, among other platforms.
