Journal Entry 1 by samulli from Weimar, Thüringen Germany on Friday, October 28, 2005
Kathleen Rowntree writes chicklit in the best sense of the word, I think. Her books are not great literature, but they are well written and her characters are interesting and lovable. This one is about Tessa Brierley, living in the charming if eccentric village of Wychwood, who discovers that her husband has an affair with her best friend Maddy. Far from reacting in the expected way she develops a plan to help her keep both her husband and her friend. It’s light reading for lazy afternoons – and of course it has a happy ending, but it leaves you smiling. Since I need room on my shelves this one goes out as RABCK or bookray – depending on how many people are interested.

Journal Entry 4 by gussy916 from Singapore, Singapore Singapore on Thursday, January 19, 2006
This was my first Rowntree and I was delighted. Her style of writing is quite dirrerent from most of the books I've read and somehow the portrayal of the life in Wychwood village was charming and light. Almost makes a city girl like me pack up and live there! I'm offering this up as a RAY, think there are a lot of Kathleen Rowntree fans out there who could share this wonderful book.

A well written and entertaining book although the subject of the book was sometimes distressing to me. The book is about the ramifications of an affair. Tessa's philandering husband is carrying on an affair with her best friend. They live in a small English village. There are a several story lines developing throughout the book. That is what the book palatable. The many different characters whose paths cross and lives are interwoven.

Journal Entry 16 by booknhand from San Jose, California USA on Sunday, July 02, 2006
Picked up out of the mailbox today after being away from home for a little over a week. It was waiting patiently along with another bookring. I am in the middle of a great book now and as soon as I finish that book (probably today or tomorrow), I will start the bookring books. I will try to have this book moving again in a few weeks. It looks like it is going to be a great summer of reading with the bookrings coming in consistantly.

Journal Entry 17 by booknhand from San Jose, California USA on Tuesday, July 18, 2006
Finished this book last night - I found it a slow read, but interesting enough to finish. I don't think I would have the stamina that Tessa has to keep up appearences for the sake of keeping her husband and her best friend while facing each of their deceitful actions. It was interesting to read a book set in a different country and written as if everyone reading it knew the lingo - I quickly figured it out and found it interesting that they lovingly called each other "me, duck" and if I interpreted it correctly, "ta" meant thank you. It was rather enjoyable to decipher the menaing of words that were not common in the "American" English language. The next person on the list is literally in a neighboring city less than a 10 minute drive away, so I am going to try to deliver this book in person. Have already PMed her. Thanks for sharing and including me in the bookring :)

Journal Entry 22 by catsalive from Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Monday, October 23, 2006
I enjoyed the book, village life, traditions and bitchiness, and I can see why Tessa didn't want her life completely disrupted. I'm sure this sort of thing goes on a lot, but I'm not sure I could do it. Still, you don't know what you'll do until you get there. I don't see the point of Eleanor's forgetfulness, seemed a complete red herring. Thanks, gussy916. I'll get this off to Juliet982 ASAP.
