Journal Entry 3 by foxy737 from Westgate on Sea, Kent United Kingdom on Wednesday, December 28, 2005
arrived across the seas today, many thanks will read and pass on asap.
starting reading today(21st march 2006) and off to kizmiaz in portugal next.
i really enjoyed this took a while to read as quite heavy going after all the recent chick-lit and romance i read.
the story was heavy and real and very gripping, i have friends of the family in the southern states of north america and they have told me stories that i can relate to this book still happening in america today in the 21st century. it's sick to think that groups like the klu klux klan can still operate in society today and this story gripped that subject with both hands and looked at it in a real light showing a man on death row that had been part of such a group as a normal way of growing up, it showed that some people just grow up not knowing any other way of life and it consumes them usually to their death.
in conclusion hard going but a good book that will bring tears to your eyes in some places and make your blood boil in others a reccommended read.

Just got it thanks a lot foxy737. Will check back when I get around to read it.
I Finally had a break in the Rings/Rays and got my chance to read this one.
Grisham’s books are always very informative about legal procedures and the way the courts work (or don’t) in the USA.
The descriptions of the Mississippi towns where the action takes place and its people ring very true and as I read along I was able to picture them in my mind’s eye. Sam is not a nice guy and Adam isn’t much of a hero but in context they’re fine and Grisham really works them.
This book has a well crafted plot and it deals with a very sensitive question, the death penalty. Now, we all have opinions about the death penalty, you can be for it or against it for an enormous amount of reasons, but I think we all agree that 10 years sittin’ on Death Row waiting for the execution is a bit too much and not humane at all. If you’re going to do it just get on with it.
This reading gives some for food for thought on the subject of the Death Penalty.
