The Forsyte Saga initially centres on Soames Forsyte - a successful solicitor living in London with his beautiful wife Irene. A pillar of the late Victorian upper middle class, materially wealthy, his appears to be a golden existence endowed with all the necessary possessions for a 'Man of Property' but beneath this very proper exterior lies a core of unhappiness and brutal relationships. When The Forsyte Saga was shown on television in 1967 it was hugely successful. The nation was gripped by the masterful visual telling of the Forsyte family's troubled story and adapted its activities to suit the next transmission. The Forsyte Saga comprising The Man of Property, In Chancery and To Let, is here produced by Wordsworth for the first time in a single volume.

Read The Man of Property, the first book in this volume. This is the story of Irene & Soames. There is humour in this book, the author pokes fun at his characters. I didn't feel sorry for Bosinney, most of my sympathy was for June who was engaged to him.

In Chancery. I really got involved in the Forsytes. This book starts 12 years later. Soames wants to divorce Irene so he can remarry but he tries to get her back. The children have grown up & 2 of the boys - Jolyon & Val, go to Oxford University. Some of the older Forsytes have died. In this book there is the funeral of Queen Victoria. The times are changing.
There's a lovely chapter at the end with Irene and her son.

To Let. This starts in 1920 & Soames is 65. His past threatens to ruin his daughter Fleur's future happiness. The oldest Forsyte dies & Soames relects on his family history & what awaits them in the changing times.

Really enjoyed reading these books & would recommend them.
