Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events: Three Books In One (#1 - #3)

Journal Entry 1 by piemunga from Marrickville, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, October 13, 2005
Book Contains The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room and The Wide Window.
Released to coincide with the film.
I quite enjoyed the first story, and found it to be quite different to anything else I'd ever read, however the stories following became a bit "same-y" for my liking.
I've decided to make this in to an international bookray since so many people seem to have it on their wishlists. Please pm me if you would like to join with your mailing preference (international or national). I will post the order of recipients here as soon as I have everyone in order.

Arrived today. I'll get to it ASAP. Thanks, piemunga.

I found this a bit too young for me. I read "The Bad Beginning" & part of "The Reptile Room" but couldn't go on. I'm sure the kids would love it though.
Thanks, piemunga. Off to Pixette next. Posted 4/11/5.

Picked this up from my postbox today. Its a very attractively bound hardback.
I almost fainted when I saw the list of participants in the bookray after me. I'll try and get this much desired book passed on as quickly as I can (she said staring at a pile of reading material!).
Thanks Catsalive for sending it on and thanks Piemunga for offering your book.

I found this to be a pleasant little read although I enjoyed Harry Potter much more. Children love stories about kids who are mistreated and put upon in some way. They seem to relate to them as every child believes they must be the most hard done by in the world.
I have completed "The Bad Beginning" and think I've got the idea so life being short as it is I won't read the other 2 books.
As an adult I found the need to regularly spend a paragraph explaining big words a little irritating. I would have thought most children would have found this technique condescending though - but then again I know lots of kids love these books.
Thanks Piemunga for the opportunity to read this. I'll get it off to Crystaljade early next week.

I have to agreee with Pixette...the constnt explaining of big words was annoying! That's why someone invented dictionaries, so we can look up a word we don't know without ruining the story for others.
I only read the first book, I just didn't feel like reading the rest. For once, I can honestly say the movie was better than the book! It's interesting that my 14 year old daughter also only read part of the first book. It seems not all kids adore these books.
I'll email leeny37 for her address and pass it on.

Posted to leeny37 yesterday.
Received today from Crystaljade, along with a couple of extras. Thank you! I will read and send it along when finished.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. I had watched the movie and had quite liked it, so I thought it would be interesting to read the book. I guess it's credit to the film; it did a fairly good job of bringing the book to life and I didn't feel like I was finding out anything new while reading it - usually I discover new details not explored in the film version when I read the original book it was based on. I think if I wanted to follow the series, I will just watch the movies (if more are being made) as I do not really have the motivation to pursue the rest of the books. Thanks piemunga for sharing though, I already have Jensel's address so I will send it on shortly! :)

Journal Entry 16 by Jensel from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Friday, March 24, 2006
Received the bookring from Leeny37. I read The Bad Beginning the first night and got partway through The Reptile Room before giving up (felt a bit guilty about it till I read the other journal entries!).
Not a bad read for a children's book but just that tad too young for adults to really enjoy unfortunately (and by that I mean something that is unlucky and a shame, lol).
Passing this on to the next in the ring,
cheers
Jensel

My apologies to everyone, this bookring will be a little delayed.
I did not realise that the next person on the list was in America - I had an Australia Post bag set aside to send it on. The post office have just advised that it will be around $20 to post the book so it will need to wait until my next payday.
cheers
Jensel

YAY! It's here! Unfortunately, I have one book I need to finish before I can start. The good news is I read quickly so it won' be too long.
Just wanted to let everyone know that this did finally go out. My apologies for being a slacker.
