7 out of 10

This is book four in the Chronicles of Narnia series. This particular edition is a radio play -- complete with actors, sound effects and music. In this story, a year has past since Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmund have stumbled out of Narnia, back into their childhood bodies and lives. Suddenly, they find themselves pulled back in, and it is 1000 years later in Narnia. It seems now Aslan has retreated and is regarded as a myth; animals no longer talk; and the prosperous times from the reign of high King Peter have come to an end. However, Prince Caspian, whose Uncle is King (what is it with CS Lewis and Uncles?) has been taught by his nursemaid to believe in the old ways. When a dwarf tutor helps Caspian find Queen Susan's lost horn, he blows it and that is when the foursome are torn from Earth and are called to make Narnia "right" again.

The Christian analogies and agendas, which I hardly noticed in The Magician's Nephew (book one) and The Horse and His Boy (book 3), were back in full force in this book. I thought it had even more religious overtones than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I also thought this book had a tad bit of misogynism, as I heard two seperate deragotory references to women. In the first dig, Edmund complained about how girls "don't carry a map in their heads". In the second, one of the warriors complained his advisor gave advice like a woman (or something like that).

I have now experienced 4 out of 7 of the Narnias, and I found none of the next 3 to be quite as good as the original. I think I'm satisfied with this series and am done with it now, so the whole pack (audiobook volumes 2-4) is ready for release... release pending soon.
