I'll send it today! Enjoy the reading!
This came yesterday as part of the bookrelay. Thanks cheeky42 for sending. The postcard and the text in it was lovely:) I'm looking forward to reading this as I have heard so many good words about it. Too bad it has to wait for awhile.
I heard so many good words about this book before reading it myself, that I thought I might be disappointed after when I'm done with this. I wasn't. I loved the story, all the sympathetic characters and the bees in it. I might even see bees in different way for now on, not afraid so much anymore.
This book made my decision easier what to buy my mother for christmaspresent. I'm positive she will love this as much as I did. I just hope the Finnish copy does not lost any of its beauty due to the translation.

And it has just arrived. Thanks, Niksou, for sending it so fast. I'm quite curious to read it. Apart from all the nice things that have been said about it and that have sipked my curiosity, my husband is a part-time bee-keeper, so the interest is double. I couldn't resist when I saw it on Bookrelay...
Clearly one of the best books I've read in 2012. The story takes place in South Carolina in the 1960ies, when the Civil Rights Act is put into effect and racial tension grows stronger. It is a great story of coming-of-age of 14-year-old girl in search of her dead mother's past. Addressing loss, betrayal, and the scarcity of love, the book demonstrates the power of women coming together to heal those wounds, to mother each other and themselves, and to create a sanctuary of true (but not necessarily biological) family and home.
I am reserving this book to be sent on a controlled release in a BookCrossing Christmas secret exchange.

Although it is written in English, it is an easy reading.
I enjoyed the story and, in particular, the names of the Boatwright sisters, because I have a friend named June too :)
I am sending it as a special gift for Meg72 because of her kindness regarding the organization of so many spring book exchanges :)

Thank you, Cokas! I have read another book from this author and enjoyed it. What a lovely surprise :-)
I confess I was expecting a bit more from this book. After a suspenseful start, the plot just slowed down and didn’t grip me.
When her black nanny is imprisoned for spitting on a white man´s shoes, Lily Owens decides to free her and escape her tyrant father. Both runaways go to Tiburon, South Carolina, in search of information related to Lily’s dead mother, who allegedly abandoned her when she was young. In this small town, they stay with a trio of beekeeping sisters, who have a mystic relation with a black Madonna and may shed some light on the real story of Lily’s mother.
After Lily and Rosaleen arrive at Tiburon, the story just loses appeal. The chapters are a sequence of beekeeping tasks, alternative religious ceremonies and one or two near dramatic events related with racism in the sixties. But even these lack real “fire”.
It is an easy read, nice for those who like bees, female bonding and are curious about the Catholic religion. Not a page turner; just a book to slowly pass the time.
