Erickson does a masterful job of bringing to life the biography of this larger-than-life monarch. She gives you a good blance between historical fact and scene setting infomration so that you have a sense of what might have been said, felt, and experienced as the events of Henry's reign culminated in their dramatic and often tragic conclusions.

I was worried, when I began reading this, that the author was going to go "too easily" on old Harry...I was glad to see she didn't! I despised the old curmudgeon more than ever after I finished the book, and that was as it should have been. He was a despicable creature. This book was different from others I have read about Henry, because it was based mostly on letters and correspondence. I love the period and its history, and I added to my stores of info in reading this book. Thank you, ottawabill. You knew just what would keep me interested!
