I enjoyed most of the stories and really liked a few. There were none that I really disliked. However, I imagine I would have liked them better had I read them separately at different times. They did have a kind of sameness about them that was apparent when read in one big clump. See the forum post for more details about individual stories. I'll be doing a ring for this one if I can garner some interest.

I really enjoyed this little book, and enjoyed every one of the stories. I do, however, agree with Ibis3 that there did seem to be a feeling of similarity between them all. As I hadn't enjoyed the last few works I read by Atwood before this one I'm glad that this was a good one (for me!) as it's renewed my interest to once again read a few more of her works.

Many thanks to Ibis3 for sharing!

This will be heading off to bibliotreker as soon as I have an address.

Wilderness Tips came in the mail today. Thanks tantan. Great timing, I'm about to finish Margaret Atwood's Cat's Eye. Looking forward to another of her books.

Finished reading Wilderness Tips 2/16. An interesting read, but I too got the feeling of sameness in the different stories and characters. I did enjoy the touches of Canadiana in the stories, one of the reasons I wanted to participate in the CanLit Project. All in all a worthwhile read.

Sent a PM to ldpaulson, next on the list, and will forward as soon as I have an address.

Mailed to idpaulson today 2/22. Happy reading.

This book arrived days ago, but I've been sick and didn't log it immediately. Profuse apologies.

I did read it very quickly. I had a sense of deju vu whilst reading. I think I read some or all of the stories previously, but none obviously made a lasting impression. The stories are well written, but all have the same sense of post-War nostalgia or longing to them. Some have more disturbing twists than others.

This solidifies the wavering about Atwood that continues to hound and frustrate me: you can't like her and hate her in the same book, it's one or the other. On the whole, WILDERNESS TIPS was good, but not overwhelmingly great.

En route to KarenZero.

I enjoy Atwood (I have previously read The Handmaid's Tale, Bodily Harm, Oryx And Crake, The Blind Assasin...and I think that's it) and had not read any of her short stories before. While I liked most of the short stories, I didn't find them as compelling as her novels. They were interesting to me but a little depressing, as they were mostly about lives that didn't go the way that people thought they would, lost potential, and also how time passes us by. Eek!

Anyway, thanks much Ibis3 for starting the ring. I will send it off to ladyjanet today!

I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read by Margaret Atwood, so far, but this book just didn’t make it for me. Although I really like short stories I felt that these were just not enough for what I expected by this author.
There were three stories that I felt were great, these were Isis In Darkness, The Bog Man and Weight. All the other ones I felt were lacking something.
It was still a good experience and I’ll be looking forward to read more books by Atwood.
Sent to the US today (27.07.2006).
