Wow I thought it would make me happy but it made me sad. It's about an 11 year old catching aids through a blood transfusion way before they checked blood from donors. I was crying a lot through it but still do recommend it - what her parents, grandparents, friends, neighbours, schoolmates, their parents, her doctor and family go through and how they act towards her and her family including her younger brother Charlie.

Picked this up at the Toronto Convention. I am looking forward to reading it after graduation, which is coming up very fast! Thanks for bringing this to the convention! It was so exciting to have all these books I want to read just handed to me!

What an emotional book! I was amazed how emotional I got during this book. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to have to go through anything like that, whethere I was there in the family or in the community. It did a good job of showing what the attitude was like when AIDS first came to the public awareness. The misbeliefs about how you can catch it are a good example. Not one of my favorite books by her, as this was a real emotional book.

A big thanks to thegoaliegirl for sending this book from my wish list! I've read a lot of Alice Hoffman's books, but I never ended up with this one. I'll read it soon and begin searching the wishes to pass it on.

This one had me in tears. I cried for Amanda and Brian and what might have been, but I also cried because I don't think things have changed all that much since the book was written. Yes, most of the world's leaders will at least acknowledge the disease and what causes it (which wasn't the case with Reagan in office back in the 80's); but I think that most people still think this is a disease which doesn't concern them directly. Until we start to think as a world community and feel that any child dying from AIDS is a tragedy, then things haven’t changed all that much.

I did enjoy the setting in Massachusetts. My husband is from there, and I enjoy the mention of familiar places.

Thanks again to thegoaliegirl for thinking of me! It's off to smhamn.
