Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Millennium SF Masterworks S)
12 journalers for this copy...
Intrigueing sci-fi novel in which you are never sure that everything as it is described. It's a classic and quite right too.
From de jacket:
War had left the Earth devestated. Through its ruins, bounty hunter Rick Deckard stalked, in search of the renegade replicants who were its prey. When he wasn't 'retiring' them. he dreamed of owning the ultimate status symbul - a live animal. Then Rick got his big assignment: to kill six Nexus-6 targets, for a huge reward. But things were never that simple, and Rick's life quickly turned into a nightmare kaleidoscope of subterfuge and deceit.

let's see what Mr Arja thinks of this book. it is for him, I don't read SciFi.

Mr Arja zegt: stukje gelezen, beviel niet bijzonder. gauw doorsturen, ik zie ineens dat het boek hier al sinds oktober ligt. sorry...
Mr Arja says: read a bit, didn't really like it. let's forward the book soon, I just noticed I've had it here since October.

well then, it just came in. I'm quite curious about this book. I wonder what androids dream of. I've got a huge mount TBR, but rings always go first, so this will be the next book I'll read.
Well, this book turned out not to be what I expected of it. It was entertaining alright, but that's probably all there is to say. A small article about this book is on my weblog: http://www.leftontheweb.com/article/202/philip-k-dick-do-androids-dream-of-electric-sheep

I did receive the book. Because I have a pile of ringbooks next to my bed, it will take a while. That's a shame for an international ring, so I will pass it on to the next particiapnt, as soon as I have the adress.
Just arrived today! Thank you :)
Received this in the mail today. Going to start reading this ASAP.

Journal Entry 21 by efs300 from -- By post or by hand --, South Carolina USA on Friday, October 6, 2006
Finished this book this evening. A good sci-fi novel, very intriguing and somewhat strange tale of the future. The social status and prestige obtained by owning a 'live' animal was unique and funny. Thanks Twinfather for shaing this book, I have PM'ed yvensong for an address and will get this in the mail soon.

Thanks for sharing!

I thought I had already written my review, but I guess NaNoWriMo has killed more braincells this year than it usually does! lol
This is an intriguing look at the world after a devastating world war. I've seen BladeRunner (and loved it!) and thought this book would fall into that adventuresome SciFi genre. I am very happy to find that it really was a much deeper, philosophical look at society, status, morals (internal and created by society), what it means to have empathy, and all the questions that arise from these issues.
If a replicant dreams, if they question how it feels to be born, or show mercy, does that possibly mean that they are attempting to learn empathy? Is "retiring" a replicant truly an empathetic act? "Electric animals" are given more empathy than a replicant. Why?
PKD leaves us to ponder those issues and so many more.
Thank you, Twinfather, for sharing this little treasure written in the late '60's. I will be returning to you as soon as budget allows.
