This book arrived in the mail today! I had ordered it from the FrugalReader.com site.
This book was ok. Was a little disappointed that it did not hold up to all the great reviews it got.
This book was placed in a bookbox.
Selected this book out of PGO-Books4all's Summer Fun Never Ending Bookbox!
Started and finished the book last night. It was a quick easy read. It was a little different, and I must say I do not know much really about Dutch painters but this book caused me to look up Vermeer on the internet. Now ready for a new reader!

This book arrived in London safely, my husband opening it for me as I'm working in the Netherlands for another week, but I'll try and get to it as soon as I get back home to the UK. Thanks for sending it on to me.
It's a quick read this one. I quite liked it, the story rattles along nicely and builds up well, but I wasn't a big fan of the prose which felt a bit basic in places. Will get it travelling again soon.

I loved this book. It has been quite a while since I last read a historical novel.
It felt like I was walking, cleaning, washing together with Griet. The desciptions of the scenery, the people, the customs of the people living in the late 17th century in the Netherlands.
Griet is an aimable character, an ordinary girl that has to go work as a maid because her father went blind after an accident. She tries to do her best as a protestant maid in a catholic family. To me, some of her 'tics' are a bit funny: the paintings that arehaning everywhere, often show religious scenes. In the cellar, where she sleeps the first time, she covers a painting with her apron.
I took a peek in the past, strolling along the streets and alleys of Delft together with Griet and I liked it a lot.
I PMed scribacchina for her address, but have not received an answer yet.

This is blueblack. For some reason I can't log in to my account.
I really enjoyed this book. I didn't understand the motivations and reactions of some of the
characters but, hey, it's a different culture after all. Very good read, and it's on its way to hazy-d in Ireland!
