This was a good book. Two girls are raised together in India as sisters. When they become adults, their lives take separate paths and family secrets almost tear them apart. It's only when they both encounter hard times that they reach out to each other again. There are elements of this book that are fairy-tale like, which make it a little odd, but for the most part it's realistic.

Have had this for about a week now, but have been too busy to journal it. Sorry. Finally finished all the holiday madness and life is returning to normal.

Finished this book already and I loved it. Found the beginning a little slow when they were younger, but really enjoyed reading it as they were growing up. The ending came as a little surprise. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will try to read another of her books when I can get my hands on one.

Book is ready to go to Tashe. It went out around Jan 10th. Forgot the date... Oops!

This was a good read and I'll have to find more by this author. I enjoyed the look into life in India and enjoyed the bond the two girls had from early on. Lots of secrets and heartache but the ending was pretty good.

Off to Shroffland shortly...

8 out of 10

This arrived here in the alps today, thanks so much for sending!
It's extremely embarrassing, I seem to have had a senior moment when I was asked if I was interested in the book - I've actually already read this book... Rereading the email with darkpunkangel, I just realized I thought this was one by Jodi Picoult, as she has several books with "heart" and "sister" in the title!!! Arggh, how awkward!
At anyrate, here are my comments on goodreads:
On the whole I very much liked this story, but at times it felt too unwieldy. It took me quite a while to get the two characters straight - maybe my weakness - I had to keep flipping back to see who was who, which I found annoying. A very bleak vision of relationships and Indian men.

Then I read the book again as I ended up using it with a class last year:

UPDATE
Liked it even better the second time around.

It looks like I'm last in line, so I'll offer it to continue its journey in some shape or form; it's a book well-worth reading. So sorry about the mix-up, and thanks for making it available and sending!
