Ben Elton's early work was very much in his stand up style. His recent work however is absolutley excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good detective story or to anyone who doesn't it is a must have!

I suppose there has to be some rules for this bookring. Try and get the book read and sent to the next person on the list within a month. If this will be a problem (due to life's pressures or too many book rings arriving at once) then let me know I'm sure we can find a solution. Let's try to keep this moving at a regular pace.

Book ring order

Brilliantly Ben. Just the right balance of humour and suspense.

On it's way!

Another ironically satirical take on the fads of today, this time Friends Reunited rather than reality TV shows. I enjoyed this as much as Dead Famous, and despite originally not expecting to rate his books, I'm now adding him to my mental list of authors to watch. Excellent murder mystery, fast paced, action-packed, sometimes brutal, with tantalising little clues dropped along the way, and as full of scarlet ocean fish as you could wish.

On its way again!

I thought this was good. I must admit by the time I'd got to the end I had already guessed 'whodunnit', but enjoyed it all the same and it was interesting to see how it all unfolded and how the Inspector went about catching him/her/them ;-)
I've never read any of Ben Elton's books before so it was a nice surprise, and even tempted me the other day to pick up a copy of 'Dead Famous' from a charity shop!
I will also be keeping an eye out for his books in the future.

I've PMed cloggy so as soon as I get an address this book will be on its way!

Similar to one of the previous journallers, I had guessed who'd done it before the end. In this book, however, I think Ben Elton raises some interesting questions about bullying and the effect this has on those children in later life. This kept the book fascinating until the end for me.

Will send the book on to the next this morning 05/01/06

I did enjoy this book, but not as much as others of his. It was a great story with likable characters, however I found the plot way too predictable and second guessed every plotline from the start.

Overall I really liked it and am very glad I have had a chance to read it. I have PM'd the next person on the list.

My first Ben Elton & I thought it a good read. The plot was full of characters, any one of which could have dunnit. Some of the descriptions where brutal but murder & bullying are not pretty subjects. Glad I read this & Ben Elton is on my list of authors to take another look at.

Oh, I really enjoyed this one! Great characters, fun and engaging plot...and as dumb as I feel about this, I have to admit that it kept me guessing until the end, LOL! This one is certainly Ben Elton in top form.
Thank you, molekilby for sharing this book!

I have PM'ed Amberkatze for her address, and will be posting this on as soon as I receive it.

It has arrived! Thank you cats-eye for sending it to me and thanks to fellow Welshie molekilby for starting this ring :)

I am looking forward to this one as I haven't read anything by Ben Elton for a few years. I just started a book this morning but as soon as I am done with it I will start on this one and hopefully have it sent to the next person within the week.

I thought the book was terrific! Ok I guessed who did it early on but the whole story and the little quirky and funny pieces throughout the book made it enjoyable. A few nice twists and turns as well and I was really annoyed that I didn't have the time to just keep reading.

I think the quote from the Daily Mail really hits it on the head 'A writer who provokes almost as much as he entertains'

Another great idea from Ben to base this on Friends Reunited! Also he did a great job with the bullying aspect. Making sure it was seen from both sides but making sure that people knew it was wrong. I will be interested to see what he comes up with next!

I am pming the next person on the list and if all goes well I will be able to put it in the post on Monday.

Thanks again for letting me take part in this!

Went up to college yesterday and this was waiting for me! I can tell its been read a lot, there's quite a bit of sticky tape on it! But I will aim to love it and then send it on. Exams are coming up, and I'm only about 100 pages into my current book, but it's a big font this one so I'll try and get it out as soon as possible!

6 out of 10

One of the better Ben Elton books I've read. Took me a while to work out who did it, and I thought the way it came together at the end made a lot of satisfactory sense. It made me laugh in places (some of the dialogue between Newson and Natasha) but I doubt I'll ever see my bottle of olive oil in the same way again...

Will post back to Molekilby later today.
