very violent and matter of fact about violence but a very interesting read about combat and the way that commanders, and soldiers react under fire. Modern history in the making from one side - pulls no punches and describes in visceral detail how things go wrong and the results....

I totally agree with cavanap. This is a very interesting and also disturbing book about day to day war life in Iraq, when U.S. troops went out to conquer Bagdad. It is about how teams work together under the strain of lack of sleep, going to the bathroom without a bathroom, fear, bravery, bad luck, stupidity, how to preserve your humanity in inhumane and de-humanizing circumstances, and much, much more. If you want to grasp an idea of how soldiers and civilians in Lebanon and Israel are living right now, read it.

What struck me also is that the soldiers are so very young. So young, and such huge responsiblities and heavy burdens. Everyone should read this.

I am sending the book to Daphne-gr.

Thank you Rackyross for making this ray!

Sorry, I forgot to write journal entry. I finally didn't read the book. Just the first pages. Too "american" for my taste. I hope next one will enjoy it.

The book was at the same time horrifying, funny and entertaining. In a way I enjoyed reading about the inner conflicts within the forces. People are people everywhere, I guess...
Also certain friends of mine found some of the photos quite entertaining. Check out the ones with Reyes. ;)

I sent the book to France on Monday (first class to make up for keeping it so very long, sorry).
