I usually enjoy Bryson's work, but this book was not written for me. As a matter of fact, it's pretty obvious it was written for Bryson's British audience. He picks apart nearly every town he visits, with the exception of the Midwest, and perpetuates the stereotypical South.

Very disapointing.

10 out of 10

I LOVED this book! Maybe because the author is from my home state of Iowa. Maybe because many (most) of the places he traveled to and wrote about, I've also visited. Maybe because I understand his Midwestern humor and dialogue. In any case, wonderfully funny stuff! I laughed out loud in several places and had to read some passages aloud to my husby just because I got such a kick out of it.

I was vaguely thinking that some day, when my kids are grown, I'll take a trip like Bryson did... visiting again all the old vacation spots of my youth. Then I realized that a woman traveling alone for that many miles probably isn't the wisest plan I could come up with. Guess maybe I'll have to take the husby with me. ;0)
