A week spent in brixham, in the mostly rain (10.10.05 - 14.10.05).
We're from Neath in South Wales near the coast about 8/9 miles away(on the flat though!).
Monday 10th breaking up the journey down to our second Sun holiday, this time Brixham, with my partner Phil and my 9 year old neice Elinor. Decided to follow the coast Dawlish/Teighnmouth instead of the dual carriageway. Stopped in Teighnmouth for a break for Elinor. Walked along the front and the beach, wonderful to see so many doglovers with their pooches on the beach. Weather was good, Elinor tried to outrun the sea and stand on the posts before the sea could catch her, tried to find shells (came back with soft pebbles, too many!). Walking back to car she discovered a lighthouse. Took her to Plynouth in June and climbed up Smeaton's Tower, since then she has this thing about them (lighthouses that is).
Imagine her delight when she cried - Aunty Claire look what i've found!! a book! really it's a book, look. and there it was, Colleen McMculloch's The Thorn Birds. Memories!!!!! Oh my! Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward - how sad, how heartwarming how sensationally sexy and breath taking. I can remember crying and not able to wait for the next TV episode. I'm 40 now and can't remember when it was on TV but it brought back wonderful memories. I took a Kathy Reich to read for the week but ended up dipping into the Thorn Birds and reliving it all- it seems so real.
When I feel I can let this go I will register with the bookcrossing.com and set this book free for the next book lover
