Journal Entry 3 by PokPok from Vista, California USA on Tuesday, March 28, 2006
I loved Rebecca, and have wanted to try more by du Maurier, so I picked this one up from the OBCZ.

Journal Entry 4 by PokPok from Vista, California USA on Thursday, November 23, 2006
I originally picked this up because I liked Rebecca so much, and descriptions of other DuMaurier books appeal to me. However, this one appears to be a straight romance, both from the book's description, and a casual flip through a few pages. While I suspect DuMaurier can write romances better than most, it's not what I'm intersted in at this time.

I'll mark is as available.

Grabbed it off the shelf at Panera Bread...

I've read Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca several times; hope I'll enjoy this title as well!

Journal Entry 7 by babzilla-c from Escondido, California USA on Monday, April 9, 2007
Although this title is not a page-turner in the same way that Rebecca and Jamaica Inn are, I still found the story compelling. I think it's interesting that Copper John, a highly intelligent, hard-working man, would be the progenitor of generations of weaklings who live in luxury due to his efforts with the Hungry Hill mine. I consider it sad that depression, alcoholism, and self-loathing plagued these weaklings, and wonder if it was because they never felt it necessary to achieve anything. The author implies their lack of desire for material improvement is an Irish trait. Perhaps it is a universal trait of people who have had too much given to them and nothing much required of them.
