When you read Little Birds it becomes increasingly obvious that it was written by a woman.
In this case I meant that as a compliment.
The book is back with WDS.
In this case I meant that as a compliment.
The book is back with WDS.
Looking forward to read Anais Nin's short stories as well.
WDS, thank you for bringing both books.
My comments on this one are as it follows:
1. I quite liked the stories about painters and models. I guess it is true – living in an illusion is what we often do, we see other people as we want to see them, and we even like the image that we have secretly made of someone much more than that someone all alive in front of us. There is this Anais Nin’s quote that captures these thoughts much better: We are like sculptors, constantly carving out of others the image we long for, need, love or desire, often against reality, against their benefit, and always, in the end, a disappointment, because it does not fit them.
2. The most frequently used word in these Nin’s stories is not sex as someone would have expected. It is this lovely word, a word all new to me - caress.
3. I also liked the preface to the stories, where Anais wrote: Most of the erotica was written on empty stomachs. Now, hunger is very good for stimulating the imagination… The more hunger, the greater the desires…Of course, if you get too hungry, too continuously, you become a bum, a tramp. I guess this could have been true for any other kind of deprivation.
4. Reading about sexual awakening, recognition of fulfillment I remembered a movie I once saw, erotic movie with layers as the writer would have put it - The Center of the world; it is mostly about the roles men and women like or would like to play in sexuality. It stayed one of my most favorite ones of its kind.
