I liked this book. The characters were fairly interesting and it kept my attention. I thought it was strange how some of the stories seemed connected and some not - or were they really all connected?

I will be making this a bookray.
Here is the list:

twinkpuddin (US, prefers US)
sweetpea0678 (prefers US ship)
cougmax (prefers N. America)
KarenZero (to ship int'l)

Finished this up yesterday. Thought it was an interesting look at the characters. I agree with KarenZero that I thought it was weird that some stories seem connected and other not. I expected them all to tie in together at the end somehow.

I have sweetpea0678's address and hope to drop this in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for sharing, KarenZero!

I really liked it! The stories were emotionally-on-edge and each focused on a female character. I agree that a couple stories were connected but each stood on their own as the women dealt with a rough patch in their lives and found a way through it. My favorite was the red chair in the kitchen, it was like the Twilight Zone in that story! Now I will have to rent the film!
Thanks!

9 out of 10

I've been a fan of Arthur Miller since I was about 16, so when I saw that his daughter Rebecca had written a book, I was intrigued.
Arthur Miller was such a literary giant that - if I had been his daughter - I would have steered clear of writing and become, I don't know, a mechanic - such HUGE shoes to fill.
I'm sure Rebecca Miller is sick of such comparisions, as on the evidence of Personal Velocity, she is a stunningly talented writer in her own right.
The seven stories which make up Personal Velocity each had their own voice and tone, but there was enough of a similar thread running through them to make the volume a harmonious whole.

I was gripped straight away. How's this for an opening line: 'Greta Herskovitz looked down at her husband's shoes one morning and saw with shocking clarity that she was going to leave him'.

Totally sublime.

As I'm at the end of the ray, I'm going to offer it up again as a new ray, in the hope that other people will read it.

8 out of 10

I liked this book. Usually in a collection of short stories, there are one or two that feel like they're dragging down the rest, but these all seemed to fit together perfectly. However, I have no idea how these stories would all tie together properly in a movie. I spent most of the time I was reading it, puzzling over different ideas editing the movie and I just couldn't come up with anything that seemed to work. I guess that means I need to go rent it. :)

I spent the book off to the next person in the list earlier this afternoon.

Hmmmm. Can't decide what I think about this one. I really liked some of the stories and thought others left me the feeling of, 'okay, the point was....?'. I LOVED the stories of Julianne and Bryna. Intriguing to see the same story from different sides. I would have loved for their stories to continue.

Conclusion: enjoyable, but didn't have me racing to get back to it every time. :)

Thanks so much for sharing! Just waiting for an address and it will be on it's way.
