"A brilliant and controversial book which demonstrates that evolution by natural selection [...] is the only answer to the biggest question of all: why do we exist?" (Klappentext)

Dawkins (known for his bestseller "The Selfish Gene") explains Darwin's theory of evolution und argues in a vivid language and with impressive clarity why it is the only answer to the question of the origin of life. Confirmed "Darwinists" may thereby broaden their horizon as well as sceptics.

This book will travel as an international BookRing. If you want to participate, please send me a PM and tell me your shipping preferences.

Note: Since air mail is very expensive, international shippers are requested to send the book via surface mail. This takes some time, of course, usually between 4 and 6 weeks. You are, as a matter of course, ALLOWED to use air mail, if you can afford it. ;-)

Thanks for sending this to me - I'm going to read it ASAP!

(Oct. 20th) I couldn't really get into this book and I don't want to stall the bookring, so I decided I'd send it on without actually having read it. It sounded really interesting, though!

RELEASE NOTES:

On its way to Astraios.

Journal Entry 5 by Astraios from Braunschweig, Niedersachsen Germany on Monday, October 24, 2005
Arrived by mail on October 24. Im going to read it ASAP, but due to other waiting Bookrings it will take its time.

Journal Entry 6 by Astraios from Braunschweig, Niedersachsen Germany on Tuesday, July 25, 2006
Indeed a brilliant Book, althougt not really controversial. People who consider it controversial just hav'nt read or did'nt understand it.

Although it's quite easy to read, it's not as easy to understand for non-native english, because after translating technical expressions, you often forgot the sentence, so you have to read it again and lose your rhythm.

will be shipped to Lisa-B when i get her Adress.

Journal Entry 7 by Lisa-B on Tuesday, August 22, 2006
Received yesterday, thanks. I'll read it during my vacation in September.

Journal Entry 8 by Lisa-B on Wednesday, September 6, 2006
Well worth reading this book (again). I can really recommend it to anyone who wants to know what Darwin's theory of evolution says and why it is true.

I have asked Rabe-de for her/his adress, and will mail it soon.

Journal Entry 9 by Rabe-de from Leverkusen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Saturday, September 16, 2006
Arrived today. Thank you!

Journal Entry 10 by Rabe-de from Leverkusen, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Tuesday, October 3, 2006
The book is easy to read and understand. It doesn't really tell any surprising news, but gives a good summary of evolution theories. Dawkins uses many analogies to illustrate different aspects. It is very absorbing in the beginning, the first chapters flew by. Later chapters get a bit detailed and excessive, so that it took me more and more time to finish them. Still the book is worth to be read.

Searching the web for Dawkins' biomorph software, I found (via the German wikipedia entry for Dawkins) two rather interesting videos about his attitude to religion (The root of all evil).

Thanks again for sharing!

6.10.: Sent to Flumi

Journal Entry 11 by Flumi from Koblenz, Rheinland-Pfalz Germany on Thursday, October 12, 2006
Arrived two days ago. I wonder if the English is as easy to understand as you said, you`ll see it at my reading time...

I`ve given up, shame on me...
Book is traveling to modmadl, enjoy it and merry xmas!

Journal Entry 13 by modmadl from Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Sunday, December 24, 2006
arrived yesterday and as i am a real fan of richard dawkins, i am looking forward.
but this ist the first book i try to read in english. hope i will manage. but will probably take some time.

edit 30.03.:
read the first half in only some days and loved it. than suddenly lost track in the middle of the book. would like to try again the next weeks. hope, nobody is angry about the travel-pause?

edit 27.04.:
didn't finish the book. although I really like the way dawkins writes and explains; he's a master of explaining even the most difficult things most easily. maybe HE coul explain then, why I didn't finish? cause I don't know. I just can't.

Thanks for sending the book to me!

I surrender. I don't think I'm capable of reading this book in English. And I just noticed that there will be a German reissue in May 2008: just pre-ordered that and asked geishabird for her address.
Sorry for arresting the watchmaker for such a long time without even reading it...

Journal Entry 16 by geishabird from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Thursday, February 28, 2008
Received today; thank you! I enjoyed reading Dawkins' The Selfish Gene some years ago and have wanted to read another one of his books.

Journal Entry 17 by geishabird from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
First of all, apologies for holding the book so long - I really didn't realize that that much time had passed since I received it.

While I didn't always find it an easy book to read - that is, not in a curl-up-in-front-of-the-fire kind of way, I did find it extremely interesting and full of really fascinating bits of information. Dawkins makes logical and lucid arguments in favour of his thesis (and is often quite funny) and the more you read, the more straightforward and truly simple the process of evolution seems - but no less impressive and even awe-inspiring for that.

Thanks for sharing this intriguing book. I will get it along to the next reader as soon as I can.

UPDATE: Mailed to toyjoy on April 25th. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 18 by toyjoy on Wednesday, August 6, 2008
Thank you geishabird for sending to me and thank Glotzfrosch for starting the ring! It'll take quite a while to start reading as I still have a few books to read.

Journal Entry 19 by toyjoy on Monday, March 30, 2009
I tried & tried to get into this book, it seems I'm incapable of it ;p..... wish it was a shorter read with bigger words. I do have another book on Darwins of evolution with pics!!! More in a lighter way.... PMed to Glotzfrosch to return the book to her.
