This latest addition to the aptly titled Adrenaline series should get listeners' blood pumping during even the slowest commute, as a polished team of professional readers bring to life some amazing true adventures of people plucked from danger in a variety of settings. Editor Miller, herself a gifted outdoor writer, has chosen one of her own suspenseful stories, about an accident-plagued canoe trip, to include in this thoughtful, varied collection, based on a previously published book of the same title. The selection ranges from the classics ("Three Years Among the Indians and Mexicans," by Thomas James and some of Jack Olsen's best mountain-climbing stories); through some famous stories by Pete Sinclair, Ralph Barker and Geoffrey Childs; and even manages to find room for a whimsical bit from Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, nicely read by Graeme Malcolm. The other readers also add interesting variations to the exciting material, managing to re-create scenes of outdoor action and emotion with ease. Anyone who thinks their own life might be enlivened by climbing a mountain or plunging into some rapids can find affirmation (or excuses) in this high-tension anthology.
