The Eyre Affair
4 journalers for this copy...
When Jane Eyre is plucked from the pages of Bronte's novel, Thursday Next must track down the villain and enter the novel herself to avert a heinous act of literary homicide.
I was so surprised to find this one in the mail today. It's been on my wish list, and I can't wait to read it. Thank you so much, lovemylife!
Well, what to say? I was actually a bit disappointed in this book. I didn't really care for the characters, and although there are a lot of funny and interesting things in the book (like the bookworms, the Shakespeare theory and the ending of "Jane Eyre") the overall story never sucked me in. I couldn't see Thursday as a veteran, and the characters' stupid names just annoyed me. The whole Crimean war bit sort of stopped the flow of the story every time it was mentioned. I think what it all comes down to though, is that Jasper Fforde is not a brilliant writer. He didn't manage to create a world I could believe in, and that is a shame, because the original idea is wonderful. Still, I think I'll read the next book in the series, if nothing else, then at least to see if Fforde has improved as a writer.
Noticed quite a lot of people have this book on their wish lists, so I'm making a ring out of it.

Arrived today.
I have only read one of Fforde's books before, so I'm looking forward to trying another.

Looks like this book is MIA - just my luck; my first ring and it stalls with the first participant... Oh well, maybe it will resurface one of these days.

This book has washed ashore at the Lost Book Island after not being heard from for many months. This new arrival will be shown to a room and be allowed a bit of rest before being introduced to the many fun things to do here at the island.
All around there are books sipping cool drinks under shady palms while other books participate in a wide variety of beach sports. There is plenty of sand, surf and sun here for all of the lost and wayward books to enjoy.
It is hoped that very soon a new journal entry will come to rescue this book from the island and send it back out into the BookCrossing world so that it may continue on its journey. It is hoped that the new journal entry will tell all the interested parties where this book has been this long time and where it will be traveling to next.
