From the back of the book:
Spanning the post-Civil War era to the edge of the Great Depression, In the Falls is an extraordinary epic of three generations of an American family, the dark secrets that blister at its core, & the transcendent bonds between men & women that fuel their lives over the course of six decades.

In the twilight of the Civil War, a Union soldier named Norman Pelham is found battle-wounded & near death by Leah, a slave running from a different hell. After Leah nurses him back to health, Norman brings her to his family homestead in Vermont as his wife, & there they begin a family that will be shaped by their passionate devotion to each other & its consequences.

This is a wonderful story that I have read more than once.

Will be offering it as an International bookring.

This book and I didn't seem to jell, but it might have been a case of timing as I was trying to read it over Xmas.

Received today from aubriel. Thanks.

I have a number of rings to get through so I may take a while to read this. I am looking forward to it so will get to it as soon as I can. It is quite a chunky book though!

Edit - 25th March 2006 - update to say this book is now number 2 on MTBR. Sorry I have had it for so long.

I thought this was a wonderful book. It is very impressively written for a first novel. I was expecting it to be a bit heavy going but for a book of its length it was really easy to stay with it. There are almost a number of stories in this book as the sories of three generations are told. Thank you to Scotsbookie for sharing.

Edit:- I have pmed Laura0141 for her address and I hope to get this in the post before the week is out.

I've got 10 ring books sitting waiting to be read (why do they all come at once?) so I'm being really ruthless and abandoning this one as it hasn't got my attention after an afternoon's reading.

PMing calalilly for addy

Sorry to have kept this book so long, kept putting off reading it as I seemed to be inundated with rings. have stopped signing up for new ones now until at least I have read all of the ones that I've got on my profile. I really enjoyed the first part of the story and then my interest seemed to wain.
