The Back of the Book

A leathery bog-man transforms an old love affair; a sweet, gruesome gift is sent by the wife of an ex-lover; landscape paintings are haunted by the ghost of a young girl. This dazzling collection of ten short stories takes us into familiar Atwood territory to reveal the logic of irrational behaviour and the many textures lying beneath ordinary life.

Margaret Atwood is just awesome. She just sucks you in and you can't believe it when the story ends! I've only read one of her novels (Cat's Eye), but this is the second short story collection I've read and I'm hungry for more!

Hold up!! There's a note in here with another address, but the list here says Frangipani04 in Portugal in next. Which one should it go to?

Journal Entry 11 by Frangipani04 on Sunday, April 15, 2007
The book arrived this week and I've already started reading it. Thank you for sending it from far far away, well-chilled!

Journal Entry 12 by Frangipani04 on Tuesday, May 1, 2007
It was a great book. I loved each one of these short stories. Margaret Atwood has a very own way of writing and of capturing personalities that really captures me.

Thanks a lot for sharing it laura0141! I already have vexter's address, so it'll travel soon!

After reading several fluffy romance novels in a row (it's kind of like bingeing on candy!), this collection was a welcome change. I could actually feel my brain working, still thinking about a story long after I'd read it. Needless to say, I enjoyed them all very much. I guess now I'll definitely have to read some longer works by Margaret Atwood, I've been avoiding that 1000-page edition of Blind Assassin for too long. :) Thanks for sharing this!

Shipped to Oikku on May 24th.

I got the book ages ago... thank you, Vexter, and sorry for the delay in my journal entry. I've read many novels by Margaret Atwood and I guess I'm more of a novel fan then because I've enjoyed most of her novels a lot more than this collection of short stories. They are definitely Atwood but didn't quite capture me as did her novels.

I'll be sending the book to candy-is-dandy as soon as I get the address.

Received from Oikku a few weeks ago and somehow it got put on the shelf without being journalled. Sorry for the delay in journalling but you now know it got here safely.

Sorry for the delay in reading but I have just spent the last couple of days in the company of this book.

I haven't read a book of short stories for a while and so occasionally got confused about the characters - they tended to cross over from one story to the next in my mind, particularly as several of the female characters were similar. Once I got the hang of it, however, I really enjoyed some of these tales. Atwood certainly has a style of her own.

I have contacted wubbaducky so I can get this moving again.

Update (9/7/08): Didn't hear from Wubbaducky so sending it back to Laura0141

Got this from a fellow bookmooch member. I've read The Year of The Flood and loved it. So really looking forward to reading this.
