Thanks, AnitaNovel! I just received the book yesterday. A couple of friends were over for lunch when two BookCrossing books arrived in the mail. It gave me a chance to suitably impress them with the value of being a member of BC. Yes, there was some eye-rolling going on among family members but I've learned to live with that. I look forward to reading The Human Stain as it was recently recommended by a friend.

A good friend highly recommended this book, so in spite of my protests that I never liked Philip Roth, I requested it on the Book Wish List Forum and AnitaNovel generously sent it to me.

I still don't like Philip Roth.

The story alternated between plodding and description-laden and speeded-up-confusing. Unpleasant, damaged main characters. And the unbelieveable premise that a man would give up so much to keep his past a mystery. And get away with it.

Well, of course they made a movie out of it.

I own a used bookstore in seattle. An employee bought the book at the big Goodwill in town, then brought it to me, not realizing that it was "feral", or not a tame book (like Aslan)
I am going to leave it in a coffee shop down the street, so that it can go back in circ. I will "eat" the $2.00 I paid for it.

Like Paddle-to-the-Sea, I suppose...

(I personally real non-fiction exclusively. Could you make a Bookcrossing copy of Stephen Jay Gould's Panda's Thumb, or one of this other essay collections, free for me?) I am not a member.

CHEERS!
