Princeton. Good Friday, 1999. On the eve of graduation, two students are a hairsbreadth from solving the mysteries of the Hypnerotomachia Poliphill, a Renaissance text that has baffled scholars for centuries. -- from back cover Ok, I one of the people that was not overly impressed by Da Vinci Code, so again I was let down by Rule of 4. The story idea seemed good, and maybe it could have been a great read with a couple of rewrites, maybe a tougher editor...? Well this copy is off to Germany, as I saw it hanging out on the wishlist of marahsulloy.

Thanks, cougmax! Loved the Red Sox card as bookmark. I actually purchased a copy of this in December while we were visiting London and I had already finished it by the time this copy arrived. But it's the same book, so I might as well journal this one. One of the critic's comments on the cover of the book was "like the DaVinci Code for people with brains." I think it would be more appropriate to say this is like the DaVinci Code for people with insomnia, because it took so long for this story to get MOVING that I couldn't read it for more than 10 minutes without starting to nod off. I was seriously half to two-thirds of the way through before the plot started to pick up. It also seemed that the stakes weren't particularly high, despite the severity of some of the events in the novel. As a more personal nitpick, the story seemed very self-congratulatory of its intimate knowledge of Princeton University. I just wasn't convinced that I should care about this mystery or these people. Maybe the DaVinci Code wasn't the most intellectual work, but it was wickedly propulsive. This doesn't hold a candle to it.

I received this from Cliff as a (belated) birthday present. Thanks a lot. This is definitely one of the books that is on the top of my wishlist. I will definitely read this one as one of the next books.

I've got some mixed feelings about this book. The book itself was very good, but the things I read beforehand were pointing towards a new Da Vinci Code. Actually, that is an insult, as this is definitely not a cheap clone, not even a well-done copy. It's a full book on it's own. So the mixed feelings are mainly caused by the fact that I let myself be influenced by what other people said ;) I wrote a review of this book on my weblog: Click here to read. I will pass on this book to someone else the way I got it: By looking for someone on cliff's wishlist that wants to read this book, then looking up the address through rabck.com :) Thanks for sending me this book!

Small change of plans. This book will be sent to the winner of the dutch summer lotery (which was held on the dutch bookcrossing forum): Maddiesmum. Enjoy!
