The Sea Road: A Novel

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a while to finally find a copy - it has been out of print for a while. The books is told alternately from the points of view of Gudrid, who describes her childhood in Iceland and her voyage to Greenland during the middle ages, and Agnar, a monk who transcribes her story in Rome. The author makes use of Norse mythology in telling her story.
The writing is beautiful and the story has a very eerie feel.

Gelesen für die Bergabbauchchallenge im Januar 2012 zum Thema "Schöne weite Welt"
I enjoyed reading the book although in the end I missed a lot of details. Gudrid's childhood and her journeys to Greenland and Vinland and what happens there is explained in datail, but what happens when they are back in Iceland and how she experiences the king's court in Norway and how and why she is travelling to Rome is just slightly ripped.
