I received the book today (October 19, 2005) and have begun reading it. I can tell I will enjoy it very much as I have already laughed out loud during the first few chapters. Thank you dear breeze144 for this opportunity and also for the beautiful postcard that fell out and the lovely tea! I plan on brewing the tea tonight after the kids are in bed and will sip it whilst reading the book. polli

Journal Entry 4 by polliwog from Lopez Island, Washington USA on Friday, October 28, 2005

I really enjoyed this book. I ended up reading it tandem with my husband because after he heard me laughing out loud a few times he got curious and wanted to read it as well. I think he enjoyed it even more than I did. I don't know if Mr. Sedaris is one of my favorite authors but my husband has already begun reading another one of his books. There were parts in the book we both identified with and many we did not. It really is just a fun read about a dysfunctional American family. The author is very clever and has a great sense of how to tell a story so that it is funny even if it really isn't all that funny! Thanks breeze144 for this bookray and again for the surprises in the book! I absolutely LOVED that tea you sent me. I hadn't had that brand before and don't know if I can get it in the US but it was very delicious. :-) This book was mailed to athomegoddess today on October 28th, 2005.

Another great read from David Sedaris. I was caught laughing out loud several times! His stories of his family are just SO out there...they have to be real. You can't make that stuff up. Will be sending this on to the next BCer on the list- Fizzfred!

Journal Entry 8 by fizzfred from Sacramento, California USA on Wednesday, December 21, 2005
I finished this last weekend and sent it to Firegirl on Monday, Dec. 19 but haven't had a chance to journal until now. :) Of course I loved this. Sedaris IS hilarious. I think polliwog said it best... "The author is very clever and has a great sense of how to tell a story so that it is funny even if it really isn't all that funny!" I would love to go to one of his readings. Thanks so much, Breeze144 for letting me read such a clever book.

I have listened to one other David Sedaris book, "Barrel Fever" and really enjoyed it, this book was just occassionally funny and it just did not 'click' with me. It was a nice change to read something funny and get the occassional laugh. It has been mailed this afternoon to olered via Media Mail. Thanks again to Breeze144 for sharing this book.

"Dress your Family in Corduroy and Denim" made a very timely appearance in the mail to Oregon today....I only had about five pages left in the book I was reading. Am excited to get started. This will be the third author in a row that is new to me! What an education.

Journal Entry 14 by olered from Salem, Oregon USA on Friday, February 10, 2006
This was a quick and enjoyable read. It was often surprising and quite funny, not at all what I had expected. Thanks for the opportunity to read it. I mailed on February 8 to celticstar (Hellie asked to be skipped)but am so sorry that I shipped it surface mail. I just read somewhere....surface on other things but air on bookrings. That would have been nicer.

This was the third book by Sedaris I've read and it's my favourite so far. Many of these stories had more serious undertone than his other books. Family is a serious business. And weird and very funny at the same time. Thanks for letting me join the ring, Breeze144. I'm sending the book to vibrant-art today.

In my effort to read the older books on my shelf, I finally picked up this book. I'm not a big Sedaris fan. I find some of his stuff funny and others just pointless. Thanks for sharing though. This turned out to be the perfect read when I had my eye surgery because it was easy to pick up and read for really short periods of time.
