Journal Entry 1 by KathyS on Wednesday, August 17, 2005
"I, DANNY WALLACE, being of sound mind and body, do hereby write this manifesto for my life. I swear I will be more open to opportunity. I swear I will live my life taking every available chance. I swear I will say YES to every favour, request, suggestion and invitation. I SWEAR I WILL SAY YES, WHERE ONCE I WOULD HAVE SAID NO". Danny Wallace had been saying no. Far too much. No to his friends, no to his colleagues, no to the pub, and no to himself. And life was dull. Dumped by his girlfriend and on a road to nowhere, it was only when a mystery man on a late-night bus uttered three magic words that his whole world started to change ... Yes Man is the story of what can happen when you decide to say YES to absolutely everything. But how do you do it without anyone noticing? And what happens when someone finds out? As Danny discovered, life can become a whole lot more interesting ... and will never be the same again.

Journal Entry 2 by KathyS on Wednesday, August 17, 2005
This was taken on holiday with us recently and was thoroughly enjoyed by all four members of our family with ages ranging from 15 to 50. If anything this was funnier than Join Me and certainly deserves the 10 star rating from my family. I'm only worried that I'm breeding my own challenger for Danny in my 17 year old DS Mark who needs very little encouragement to think up "stupid boy projects" as it is! I will be offering this up for a UK only ring in the very near future.

I didn't find the book as funny as the previous Danny Wallace and Dave Gorman "Stupid Boy Project" books, but I am glad I have caught up in what is going on in the world of Danny, there was alot of soul searching - and sometimes I thought the book dragged a bit - but the funnier parts like Moon Tickling made it worth the read. Thanks for sharing Kathy - this book has already been sent on to Olliebear so should arrive soon.

A fantastic read! I do love Danny Wallace, he always manages to make me smile. I enjoyed this much more than Join Me, surprisingly. I thought the idea of saying Yes to everything was brilliant. I was surprised about the places he ended up because of it! Amazing, really! Thanks for sharing, will get this off the sunflowergirl asap.

I received the book this morning, and can't wait to read it. It is joining a small queue, I have one ring book to read before I can get to this but I shouldn't be too long. I must say a massive thank you to Zoe / olliebear for all the goodies she sent for me along with this book. I especially love the huge sunflower badge, the patch is cool too. :o) And thanks for the bookcrossing stickers as well. The thumb thingy will really help me, sometimes I struggle to hold books open when my hands are particularly painful, this thumb thingy looks perfect for me. :o) You're too kind.

I have a big complaint to make about this book... it's too addictive!! lol. I really struggled to read it a bit at a time as there was something compulsive about it. Last night I gave in to the urge and stayed up til 3:30am reading it to the end!! Seriously though, I really enjoyed this book. I'm under a lot of stress at the moment and this book was exactly what I needed to cheer me up a bit. As well as cheering me up and making me laugh, it really gave me something to thing about as well. I've been pondering all morning on things I've said no to when I could have said yes, it'll definitely make me think more in the future about giving myself opportunities to do things. This is the first Danny Wallace book I've read and I don't think I'd have read it had it not been for this ring, so thank you for sharing it with me. * * * * * * * I've already got Camis' address so I'll post the book on as soon as I can. It may be a few days though, so please bear with me. I'll journal once it's on it's way again! :o)

I enjoyed this, although I think Join Me was funnier. However, Danny's ability to end up in bizarre situations never fails to amaze me and I do wonder what he will get up to next! Thanks for sharing this, will post on as soon as I have an address.

The book arrived me with safely. I'm really looking forward to reading this. I enjoyed it. I'd never read one of his books before, but had watched 'Are you Dave Gorman'. In my mind, this book 'suffered' a little in the same way as the tv program, being hilariously funny in the beginning, when the premise is set out and followed, but slacking a bit in the middle and towards the end. I do have to admit that I burst out laughing on the train a couple of times. And I also questioned the things that I've said 'No' to in the past, for no reason whatsoever. Sometimes the words 'No I can't make it' are out of your mouth before you even think about it. It made me think. PM-ed Jonneh for his addy and will get the book moving again soom.

Just finished it last night... this book is awesome. It sustains humour most of the way through, however i do admit it very slightly loses steam in the middle, but i do not think it matters too much due to the amazing ending. At many points it made me laugh out loud, too many to name but one of my favorites is (without giving too much away) about Ian and Busted. It really does make you want to 'Say Yes More' and i think i may do just that. Inspiring, Hilarious, Heart-warming and interesting. A brilliant book. Im gonna pass it on to Laura tonight hopefully.

First of all, i have an apology to make. I was sure i journalled this book when my brother Jonneh gave it to me in December. Just realised i didn't. Sorry. So Jonneh hasn't had it all this time. It was me. ;) The good news is i have finished reading it so it's ready to pass on. I laughed out loud for a lot of this book and had to restrain from telling my husband what was so funny. He really wanted to read it himself and got it for christmas from his sister. I especially liked the portrait by the street artist, which had me nearly spraying hot tea everywhere! I love Danny Wallace... after all, he is my King! Now please be upstanding for the national anthem: "You've got to... Teach the world to sing Danny Wallace is the king For justice and politeness are the laws that he will bring Where the order of the crown Is to frown upon the frown We done a constitution and we even wrote it down..." Will pass on to GothMarcus as soon as i check the address is have for him.

Q. Is this book completely truthful? If the answer is Yes, then I'd quite like to answer Yes to the question "would you like to slap Danny Wallace?". I may be taking this book far too literally, but he comes across as quite a rude individual sometimes, especially to his friends. Otherwise, it's a funny book with some thought-provoking moments in it - part-comedy, part-self help book. Not as good as Wallace's first book 'Join Me', but yes, still worth reading. Updated 3 February: On its way to detailista.

Sorry it has taken me so long to journal the arrival of this book but the other half has been effecting surgery on the computer which had yet another virus. So much for Panda software, he's back to zone alarm again now so fingers crossed when I come back to journal the book all will work in my favour!

Not as funny as I'd thought it would be given the previous journal entries, a bit too slapstick and OTT for my tastes but good in parts. I'd certainly like to shock the cold callers by doing the double glazing trick on them. Yes, yes, yes, really interested, just got a new whatever but come along, have a cup of tea and nice long chat with me, etc. but would it work in real life, that is the question!!!! Off to Squirk now!

Yikes!! I've had this book for around 2 weeks and only now, as I go to make a journal entry, do I realise I haven't registered its arrival. Ye gad! Sorry! Anyway, this book had me laughing a lot. I loved it. What a crazy man. Let's hope this is the end of his stupid-boy projects as surely his bank balance and friends can't take any more :-) Off in the post to kert01 when I have an address. Thanks for sharing!

Oops, sorry I seem to have held on to this for far longer than I should. It got mixed up in the bedroom redecoration. I really liked this book, in some ways more than Join Me. It did make me laugh, although I'm quite sure he can't be quite so naive as he makes out sometimes - but it makes a good story. was waiting for me when I got back from the weekend. started reading it in the chiropractor's waiting room yesterday and actually found myself going no, no, no and squirming in my seat. Not sure that I will get through all 400 pages but am marking it in my diary to post off just after Christmas

A book about Danny, who having been told by a stranger on a bus that he ought to "Say Yes More" decides to interpret this as saying "Yes to Everything". An easy read and although I cringed a bit when I read that he had even answered yes to questions like " are you asking for a slap?", however it did make me think about how many things I say no to every day, just out of habit. whilst reading this book I decided that I should try to be not like Danny saying yes no matter what, but at least less of an automatic no person. - So I did agree to buy some t-towels from a hawker at the door then discovered just how much of a markup they were. In particular I liked the chapter where Danny met the other yes man, "Marc" in Barcelona. Marc seemed to have a more rounded attitude to saying yes and didn't fall into the traps of email scams . I would have liked to know more about Marc's philosophy ie how to turn "Do you want war?" into "Yes, i would like to make peace." I also really enjoyed the thoughts of the Buddhist monk especially when he liken Danny to a peacock. apparently Peacocks thrive on poisonous berries & the monk argued that if you have the ability of openness and acceptance then you have the ability to deal with situations that others would find defeating. The Buddhist also pointed out to Danny that we can all be inspirational to others effectively the stranger on the bus or "Maitreya". Thanks for sharing Kathys, as its one of the few books I finished this year maybe you have helped get me back into reading.

I'm 100% sure that I posted about this. I enjoyed it. It did make me laugh out loud on occasion. I allowed fantasyman to read it while it was here as I was having a little bit of trouble with sorting stuff out over the last couple of weeks. Anyway, Pookledo didn't want it, so it was posted on to Spike yesterday. Hope he enjoys.

Over all, I think I did enjoy this book, but not as much as Join Me - it's not as consistantly funny - and I have to admit that at times the book/Danny Wallace just.....well, annoyed me really. There are times when I refuse(d) to believe that he said to some of the "challenges", not because of where it was taking him, but because of the consequences. Without giving too much away, there's a point where his "yes" really hurt Hanne, and if he really felt that strongly about her as a friend, would he really have done that? No, I don't believe he would have. As others have stated, I did/do wonder at how accurate some of the accounts are. Having said that, there are some very funny moments in there, most memorabe for me is the "moon tickling". I'm not sure I ever thought I'd describe something as a "light read", but this is it I think - especially as I'd just read We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver :-)

A big thank you to everyone who took part in this successful bookring. "Yes Man" is now safely back home having visited 15 readers all around the UK. Most people seemed to like the book as it received quite a few 8* and above ratings. I'm also pleased to see that the book has survived the journey well - infact in looks as good as the day it started on it's journey! The book will rest here for a while (DS, now 19, wants to read it again) before I find it a new home. Thanks once again for taking part in my only bookring that has done the rounds properly and survived to tell the tale :o)
