I bought this for Mrs XLG because she had enjoyed sarah Waters other books. reading the cover though, it looks like a book I would enjoy ---- Victorian prisons and a spiritualist feature heavily.
It also has the honour of being my 1000th registered book!

I fainally got round to reading this and, as I expected, I quite enjoyed it. It is another story of love between women but this one is much more gentle than 'Tipping The Velvet' and not explicit at all.
The story moves along nicely with those reveations of what being a Victorian 'lady' as opposed to a 'woman' meant in those days (1870's). For example not being able to dress themselves and remaining cold rather than simply add some coal to the fire when the servants are away. When the 'lady' is left alone in the house for a few weeks she looses track of time because there are no servants to wind the clocks up!
Recomended to those who like a little mystery and trechery with their romance.
