I am setting up a Bookray for this book in July (or sooner if I finish it).

I am hoping that the order is okay, I have to admit that I`m not a great one for knowing locations but set up the best I felt geographically. If not, please let me know and I can try to figure out a better route for this book to take!

Participants so far in ORDER. Individual emails to go out shortly...
1. guinaveve (OH-ship US)
2. infiniteTBR (NH-ship US)
3. minerva1221 (TX-ship US)
4. TheBowieFollies (NY-ship US)
5. LyekkaMarengo (PA-ship international if needed)
6. Brookler (Canada-ship anywhere)
7. froggirlwendy (Australia-will ship international)
8. Katisha50 (UK-will ship international)
9. vexter (Slovenia-will ship regionally-Europe)

I released and then realized that I had forgot to journal how I enjoyed this book. Quite a different storyline and a fun one, a few twists and turns so I dare say too much as I don`t want to give away any spoilers. I had mentioned to my hubby what this was about and he was eager to find out 'why' a guy asked to rent the basement. Fast enjoyable read!!

This was interesting. I sat down and read it over the period of half a day. I kept coming right back to it whenever I had to put it down.
I thought the whole book went really well, start to finish.
I have this all tucked away in an envelope to send to the next participant on Saturday when I can get to the post office.
Thanks for starting this ray Wistroll.

6 out of 10

I ended up sitting down and reading this last night. I have mixed emotions about it. I really thought that the book could have used a few more chapters. And not because "I want to know what happens next" but because after I finished reading it, it felt a little pointless. I mean, it was good reading for the most part, but it just kind of petered out at the end. Will be sending it along.

This was a quick read and I enjoyed the story. Thanks, Wistroll, for the opportunity to particpate!

I do agree with infiniteTBR in that it felt unfinished to me. The ending seemed to wrap up a little too abruptly and left me with many unanswered questions.

9/06/2006 UPDATE: In the mail to TheBowieFollies. Sorry it took me so long!

Riveting read indeed!
I have heard through the grapevine that Bill Clinton considers Mosley to be his favourite contemporary author, and judging by the inimitable voice he has, especially in MAN IN MY BASEMENT, I can understand his predeliction.

The caged bird that sings here in the form of Anniston Bennet will haunt you with his duality and hypocrises, there is a perpetual undercurrent of racial tension in its reverse process, it is gripping, and the brevity of it is understandable as so much is captured on each page, it may just as well have been a tome. I think I had a man in my basement that shouldnt of been there was it Lord Lucan perhaps Jimmy Hoffa? There were some toenail clippings it could never have been Howard Hughes then :P
big crossbrooking love to everyone from
rockin ronnie the ranter :)
I sent this out yesterday to my dear dear devotchka divine that meets me in all these familiar places
cheers!

Received yesterday from my bookring bud, the Crazy Lady( and I say that with deep affection). We do seem to follow each other around rings quite a bit. Not sure what that means but I guess it must mean we both read lots of interesting books, and this looks to be another. Only 2 rings ahead of this on so it shouldn't be too long.

I too have mixed emotions about this book. It kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'd say I didn't like it, but it was a hard book to put down, which feels to me like a bit of a contradiction.

It seemed to be a teasing story, always hovering on the edge of something important, but never really getting there. The end was totally unexpected and somehow very disappointing. And some of the imagery (like the baby and the dog) was too ghastly.

Well-written, but perhaps too dark for me.

Well, I'm not sure what I thought of this book. The writing is gripping, but the story did feel unfinished to me. Perhaps I should have been looking less at the plot and more at the issues that were raised.

Will send on when I receive vexter's address.

Well, the book turns out to be quite gripping. Finished it faster than I expected, because I couldn't put it down. The story is definitely unique, and also well-written. I'm not sure I get the deeper meaning (or maybe I do, but keep thinking this can't be it), but it was an enjoyable read in any case. Thank you for sharing it, Wistroll! And oh, I only just realized it's a bookray ending with me, so thanks for that. :) I hope it'll travel to a new reader soon!

What an extraordinary, compelling book!

I found myself really gripped by this strange tale of oppression (but who is the oppressor?), conscience (but who is the one with the conscience?) and guilt and innocence (but who is guilty and who innocent?).

Thank you to all the previous readers, and particularly vexter, for sharing this complex piece with me. I'm so glad I finally moved it from 'To be read' to 'Read' - and will try to ensure it finds another appreciative reader to continue its travels.
