Book Description: The Peace Book is a timely explanation of the term for young readers living in a sometimes uneasy world. In the colorful, cartoon landscape, peace can be anything from "keeping the water blue for all the fish" to "wearing different clothes" (the picture shows two girls, one in funky bellbottoms, the other in a traditional burqa) to "having enough pizza in the world for everyone." A beautiful children’s book that is for both our children and our inner child. I hope you enjoy it!

Post Script: YEAAAA! This book has finally come home! I hope everyone enjoyed The Peace Book, and will keep it's colorful images and simple words close at heart and in mind. Thank you all for participating and being so diligent in reading, sharing and passing it on! Busybeesfamily

An absolutely beautiful, gorgeously illustrated book! My kiddos loved it!

And...in my opinion...Peace is rocking in a rocking chair, holding a newborn in your arms for hours, enjoying the sound of their breathing.

Do you remember that feeling? Oh...it was so nice. The silence...the love...the "togetherness" of it all!

What a wonderful little book! If I had little ones around, I'd certainly share this with them!

These days, peace is when I sit back to read or watch a movie and my guinea pigs are quietly chirping and trilling on my lap. :)

I have pm'd polliwog for her address. I will send this on its way as soon as I hear from her.

yvensong

P.S. I'm so sorry it took me so long to journal the book. I drove out of town last week Saturday to visit a cousin in the hospital. I checked my mail on the 3rd, before I left, but it hadn't arrived yet.

Book received - September 14 2005

We loved this book! My two sons aged just-turned-5 (Beau) and nearly-7 (Toby) really enjoyed this story. In fact, after I had read it the first time, the 5 year old asked me to immediately read it again! He just turned 5 so was a little confused when I would read each page that started with "Peace is...". he thought Peace was a person and kept asking me which one was Peace as we looked at the colorful illustrations. So I changed the wording slightly as I read it saying "Peace MEANS..". The book was a great way to introduce the concept of Peace.

When I asked Toby what peace meant to him he said "not fighting over the computer" - something he and Beau had been doing just before I read the story! :-)

I then asked Beau what peace meant to him and he said matter-of-factly, "food". I think the page where they show an enormous pizza with the words "peace is enough pizza for everyone in the world" was his favorite part.

Peace to me these days is having a quiet house, petting my cat, having someone say something nice to me and being able to pay all my bills that month!

I had never heard of Todd Parr before but in looking at the author info on the jacket of this book I see that he has written several children's books and has a website. I'll have to check out more of his wonderful books!

Update - January 2, 2006

My boys asked for this book for Christmas because they enjoyed it so much. I did get it for them and another one by the same author called "The Family Book" which is equally as wonderful. He has a dozen or more books all in the same great style. I hope to get the whole set for the boys one day.

Recieved today as part of a ring. It was suppose to have "delivery confirmation" (which someone did do and pay for) but the book was delivered to my neighbors house anyway! They were nice enough to bring it to me. I read it today, and loved it! My favorite is "Peace is reading different books". I PM the next person on the ring several days ago, when I heard it was being shipped to me. I will try once more and see if they respond.

The colors are vibrant, the pictures simple, the message for us all profound! Thanks for sharing this book as part of the World Peace Day Challenge! This would be a wonderful book and addition to a pre-school or early elementary school library! I will be getting the address of the next person on the list and sending it on it's journey!

This is the most adorable book! What a timely message .. esp. "Peace is helping your neighbour. and Peace is giving shoes to someone who needs them." This book should be in every school library in the country reguardless of whether it is a high school or younger. This is a beautiful simple message at a time when we all need to see the best in each other and give the best of ourselves.
I'm bringing it to school with me to share it tomorrow then off to the UK it goes. I should send it Friday when I can get to the post.

Thank you for sharing :-)

Peace Book is heading to England. Very cute!!

Journal Entry 12 by nocton4 from Lincoln, Lincolnshire United Kingdom on Monday, January 2, 2006
This wonderful book arrived here in England on New Years Eve ..

I thought it would be a great part of celebrating the end of one year and the start of a new one by reading this book aloud to the Rowe family ( friends we had staying ) and my parents that evening.

The messages of hope on these rich, bright, warm pages are heart-stopping and truly inspiring .. that everyone should have a home, be free, have shoes ... be loved.

I am humbled sitting here in my home with the light on, at my computer with the sound of the washer cleaning my clothes, with dinner cooking in the oven and the makings of many more meals tucked away in the fridge, the freezer, the larder ...

Thank you so much for sharing this fab book round.I intend to buy one for my family and a couple to donate.

Much Love to all

Denise xx

YEAAAAA! The Peace Book has finally made it home! I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Thank you so much for participating in this bookring and for diligently reading, sharing and passing it on. I hope the colorful illustrations and simple words of peace stay with you in your minds and most importantly, in your hearts. I plan on donating this book (along with journal entries, if I can figure out a way to print them neatly and affix them securely) to my children's elementary school library. I know that the Kindergarteners, 1st graders & 2nd graders will all enjoy this book.

Thanks again, Busybeesfamily
