Purchased from what used to be my favourite Oxfam. Earls Court used to have very cheap books; however a crack team of Oxfam ladies have overhauled the store and doubled the price of the literature. Shocking stuff ;)

This story was beautifully crafted and held me spellbound for the duration. It was an amazing glimpse into another world, another time and another country, that is an Afghanistan which no longer exists and probably never will again to the same extent. I found the kite fighting scenes hugely enjoyable and it has inspired me to want to see such a display with my own eyes.
The author used sensitive brush strokes when painting up his version of his childhood home but he spared us nothing in delivering the shocking god awful truth of what is has now become and I very much liked the ending. I guess I now understand why everyone was raving about this book when it was released.
May this book find an appreciative reader inshallah.
