Picked this up from the shelf in the Nags Head when dropping off a couple of books. I've never read any of these books, but I'm curious to largely because the author chose his pseudonym from an old Birmingham City goalkeeper.

I have to say I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to. It's basically an old-fashioned memoir. It flits between the author's training for the RAF having joined up at the start of World War II and his recollections of his experiences as a vet in rural Yorkshire. It doesn't contain any stunning revelations, isn't laugh-out-loud funny and won't make you well up, but it is a pleasant read. Basically, the author is a nice chap. He's self-deprecating and observant, he's polite and warm. He sees the good in pretty much everything and to be honest, reading something like this made a refreshing change. Yes, it's old fashioned, but in my view, it's the good old fashioned.
