Journal Entry 1 by Curlita from Seattle, Washington USA on Thursday, October 10, 2002
Fantastic blend fact and fiction. Takes place in the Congo just as the Congolese are gaining independence. The main characters are in conflict over their perspective on the events around them. Complex characters, heart-breaking romance, passionate sex. A page-turner!

Journal Entry 4 by AnonymousFinder on Sunday, June 15, 2003
To be quite honest, I had a lot of trouble reading this book. I cannot quite describe my feelings towards it in words: it wasn't quite boring, yet it wasn't enjoyable either. I did find that once I started reading, it was hard to put down again, but not in an enticing "what's going to happen next?" kind of way. Like I said, it's hard to describe the way I felt towards it... I guess, to summarise, it wasn't really my cup of tea. I hope someone else finds it more enjoyable than I did. Though, to end on a higher note, it was beautifully written. I really enjoyed the use of flashbacks and the bits of foreign language -- would very much like to visit the countries mentioned some day!

Journal Entry 8 by Special-K from Carseldine, Queensland Australia on Thursday, August 21, 2003
I finished this during the week and have PMd Solarpluvia for an address to send it to. I have to agree with thejuiceisloose, I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I kept reading because I wanted to know what happened but I was never really engorssed in the story.

Recieved this book several months ago as part of a bookray. It has been a while since I actually read it, but I did like it.
