I bought this book because I really enjoyed 'The Girl With A Pearl Earring' and have since read all of TC’s book. I must say that this is my favorite. I think I enjoyed it because it was two stories that were interwoven. I was really satisfied with the ending.

Unfortunately, I appear to be in the minority. No one that I've lent this book to has even finished it. They all apologize and give it back.

This is part of my Permanent Collection, but if you’re local and want to borrow it, just send me a PM. I'm not too worried that anyone will want it based on the responses my friends and family had to this book... Oh well...

Well, I've been hoarding this as a PC book, but I've decided that I'd like some other opinions on it. So, I've decided to make it a ring.

Basic Guidelines (cobbled together from the many out there)

1. As soon as you receive the book, journal it and PM the next person for an address. If they don't respond let me know, and we'll work something out.

2. If you've been asked for an address, but you're unable to accept the book, please let the person before you know, and also notify me.. We may be able to shift the order around so that you can receive the book when you have more time for it.

3. If you are unable to keep the book moving within 4 weeks, please notify me. I understand that life happens, just please keep me in the loop.

4. Journal your thoughts, impressions about the book and send it on it's way.

Colebear, I think I may be joining you in that minority :)

I have read three books now by Chevalier and I think this was my favorite. In fact, I think I read it in two sittings! Unlike the other works of hers I've read, this did not center on a particular piece of art, although there are several references to artwork based on the Virgin Mary--a subject that has always interested me because of the many different ways she has been portrayed physically and emotionally through the ages. For me, this overview seemed to work better, particularly in the way the story was presented.

I liked the way the two stories were woven together--up until the end. The ending to me felt rushed, but that may just be my current frame of mind.

Thank you very much for sharing this with me. I've PMed carrie1 and hope to have this in the mail next week.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I mentioned to colebear that it helped to read the Historical Note in the back first. That is my advice to the next reader. Maybe some of you who started it once before & didn't finish might like to try it out again. :)

This journal entry is a little after the fact, but here I go anyways.

This is the second book I've read by Tracy Chevalier (the first being 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'). I enjoyed that book, even if it were a little predictable, but found it easy to put down for a few days here and there. I read 'The Virgin Blue', however, over the weekend and would have happily read it in one sitting if my life would allow me that luxury.

I liked how Chevalier wove the two stories together and thought the quickened pace towards the end was appropriate. Thanks for sharing!

Sent previous entry before finishing it, sorry I'm new at this. Also enjoyed Tracy Chevalier's previous work and like this almost as much. Wish there was more to the book, the author could have given us a little more detail on Isabell's family.
