10 out of 10

After checking this out from the library repeatedly over the past four years, I found this copy in a second-hand bookshop.

Susanna Dallet, a paintrix in 16th century London is a humorous character and the messes she finds herself in are often hysterical! I really like the way the author starts each part with a description of a painting.

I'm willing to loan out locally, but I will not mail this book, nor can I be convinced to part with it permanently.

I have been watching the historical series The Tudors while I read this book. The facts stay very close, except that the series has Henry VIII's sister marrying the King of Portugal instead of the King of France. I'll have to get out the history book and see what's what! Other than that discrepancy, I enjoyed the book very much! Lots of subtle humor and misunderstandings which make for a semi-serious comedy of errors. All ends well, however!

I'll bring this to the May meeting.

A good story, but a little slow to get through. The end picked up the pace. It was funny to see how she got herself into so many messes and how she made her way out. I'll be releasing this into the wild at my local Panera in Ormond.
