Description:
A sassy, sexy and very funny novel introducing Simone Kirsch aka Vivien Leigh, stripper and PI, who is determined to find the real killer of strip club owner, Frank Parisi.
Simone Kirsch aka Vivien Leigh is sexy, funny and intelligent.
And she needs it all as she goes undercover, stripping at the table dancing club, The Red Room, to find out who killed the sleazy owner, Francesco 'Frank' Parisi. It's the only way to get her best friend Chloe back from Frank's underworld brother Sal who says he'll kill her unless Simone can come up with the real murderer.
After graduating top of her private investigators course and working in a peepshow, Simone has a few tricks up her sleeve . . . and she's never been afraid of getting herself into sticky situations. But now she's tangling with the city's most corrupt cop, some crazy strippers and a rockabilly band called Las Vegas Grind.
A criminally witty romp on the sexy side of the mean streets.
About the Author:
Leigh Redhead was formerly a stripper in Melbourne but has now moved to northern NSW and is a trainee chef in Mullumbimby. Peepshow is her first novel and she is currently working on the next in the Simone Kirsch' series.

I enjoyed reading this book. Leigh Redhand has invented a very wild character. It certainly shows that the author knows her stuff - Leigh Redhead having worked previously as a stripper - which makes the story more credible.
Many of the notorious sites in Melboune, like The Shaft Cineama, CrazyHorse, etc are in this book - which was great because I've lived in Melbourne for 30 years, and I always wondered what things happened inside these seedy places. So good to read a novel where you know all the street, pubs and places. If your from Melboune, you will love this book more.
I hope Leigh Redhead writes another book, with Simone Kirsh again, and if so, I would love to read it.

Received this book in yesterday's mail - thanks unbalanced for the trade, as I've been keen to find and read this book, and also her follow-up book "Rub Down". I saw the author at the recent Brisbane Writers' Festival, as well as "In Siberia Tonight" on SBS, and the writer has moved on from being a trainee chef to studying for her Masters Degree (I think) in something to do with literature/writing at the Uni. of Qld.
Note - I've managed to get a copy of her 2nd novel Rubdown which is also now on a bookring.

A pretty good effort for a first book in the crime/murder genre, and one which I really enjoyed. I found it an easy read and enjoyed the twist at the end. It's obvious that the author has a fairly intimate knowlege of the stripping industry and I enjoyed the insight into the seedier side of Melbourne.
When I saw Leigh Redhead on a panel at the Brisbane Writers' Festival, she said that she had enjoyed killing of the character who was based on someone she disliked in real life, and that made the writing easy for her.
I'm not sure if this book will be for everyone, due to the setting amongst the strip clubs and private exhibitions, althought the panel adjudicator at the Brisbane Writers' Festival, Jan Power (who runs Powerhouse markets etc), said that "all the little old ladies at her book-club absolutely loved it", so I'll let the reader decide for themself.
I'm offering this book up for an Australian booking.

This book arrived today, which was good timing as I just finished 'Pride & Prejudice' and was thinking to read something a tad more modern *grin*. My hubby wants to read it too, so we should be ready to send on in a week or two - he reads slower than I do!

Received this today while at Bcbrisbane xmas lunch, thanks for starting a ring Aleonblue and Unbalanced for providing the book originally!
An interesting read, I'd never read anything set in Melbourne before and haven't been there but it wasn't hard to picture the places it was set in.
Will mail to the next person asap!

Off to Xoddam tomorrow, enjoy!
Book has been with me since Saturday. Apologies for not journalling sooner, I didn't bring BCID and computer together until now. I've already read a chapter or two when I didn't have other books with me -- it's well-paced and deserves more devoted attention, though it's not likely to get it the way my life is going at the moment! I'm putting it at the bottom of my list of rings, but it's quite likely to be read sooner than some of the more 'literary' stuff.
Thanks Unbalanced, aleonblue, wombles.

I love the cover, but it does attract comment! I feel like
wrapping this in brown paper -- I don't read it walking down
the street like most books, I sit right up the back of the bus
and look around to see if I'm being watched before I get it
out, then put it away in my bag before I stand up. *And* my
partner's sister told me I'm weird. And this is Sydney, not
some small town in the American midwest!

Hey, this was pretty cool. Apparently the author now lives in the same very small town as my sister, so even though I'm not completely familiar with Melbourne's seedy streets (hey, I live in Coogee and work at King's Cross, why would St Kilda interest me? :-) there's still something in common. It's a good adventure story, plenty of sex, the heroine could be the girl next door, she's self-destructive but only in the nicest possible way :-)
I've neglected to bring this to town with me today, so I can't pass it on to hunnyb tonight, but I'll get it and the sequel to her as soon as I've finished Rubdown.

Received book today. Thanks all :) The cover is rather eye-catching! Am finishing off a bookring book now so will get into this on the weekend.
This was a really fun read. Full of twists and turns, and of course made all the more intriguing by the insights into the underworld of sex, drugs and rock and roll (or should that be country music?) Thanks for sharing this, I'll send it along when I finish "Rubdown".
Arrived today ... thank you.
Loved this! Plenty of action ... of one type or another 8-) ... on every page! Enjoyed it so much I went straight on to the next installment.
An interesting insight into an industy I wouldn't have otherwise known anything about!
Continuing the journey as soon as I have an address.

Hi,
Received earlier in the week. Not sure if I'll get a chance to read it as Im doing another bookring also and both books came within a day of each other! Typical! Will probably pass on to alinci-g without reading. Stay tuned!

Arrived this morning. Many thanks. I am looking forward to reading it.
Well written and I learned a lot about the lives of sex workers (!) but I felt that all the details of Simone's sex life took up a bit too much of the book. However, Leigh does know how to tell a story. Now its on to silvermoonwyrm.
Thanks so much for sending the book to me at my holiday destination! I'm sorry it's taken me a while to journal the book; it arrived in really good time (I think last Monday?) but I've got sporadic access to a PC while on holidays. I have started reading, but will reserve a rating until I complete it! It's a bit bawdier than my usual read, but enough humour to make up for the assault on my WASPiness! :)
Will PM tantan for an address and try to get both books off again my the end of the month.
Thanks again!

I read it. I probably shouldn't have bothered after the first few chapters, but you know how sometimes you just do it anyway? It's not a great book, and I found the central character just so sad - not because she's a stripper, but because she has so little sense of her own value. She was likeable and stron in some ways, but funnily enough she exhibits more strength and independence while she's getting her gear off than in her genuine relationships. Oh well.
This book is off to the next link...

Received from ScarletRubies - many thanks! It's a couple down on the bookring pile, but I'm getting through them as quickly as possible.

I really enjoyed this sassy and sexy romp of a book. Great light reading, and had me hooked all the way through. Loved the twist at the end. I'm heading straight on to Rubdown, and will pass them both on to blakkat-BNE when I'm done.

Book arrived yesterday :) I think I've got a couple of other books ahead of it but I shall hopefully get to it soon :)
Despite the fact that the lead character is a stripper, I still didn't expect the book to be as raunchy as it was. I agree with what others have said in that sex scenes featured a little too much in the story - the poor girl seems to hardly ever be on her feet!
Overall, not a bad book though.
Will pass on to bookworm-BNE once she returns from her trip.

Sorry for the late journal, Blakkat gave it to me at lunch on Monday and it has been an amazingly hectic week. On the other hnd, I have already read it! Didn'' take very long, it's a good light read and I enjoyed it. Her self-destructive behaviour gets annoying at times, but she's a lot of fun :)
I'll PM sarahbear to pass on, but my housemate said she wanted to read it too so it will probably be in a weeks time.
Thanks for sharing.

Yah I have been looking forward to reading this. Thanks for sharing.
This was a great first book. I have already read Rubdown earlier so it was great to go back to the start and see this character develop. I hope she writes another in this series.
Thanks for sharing.
Posting to silvermoonwyrm today.

I loved this book. It was a great light read. LIght in tone, but not light in character or plot. I whizzed through this in a few hours, and think I may need to go and buy myself a copy. Would be a good airport or travel lounge release too...especially with the eye catching cover.
My partner and housemate both want to read this one, and the sequel, but they should be finished both by payday in a week and a half anyway. Then I'll PM leeny for her address, or pass it on at next melb meetup.

Received last night at meet-up.
Well, a bit of fun light reading never goes wrong and Peepshow fit the bill perfectly. It wasn't spectacular and not particularly mind-blowing, but it was definitely entertaining. I also enjoyed reading about the darker side of Melbourne -- I've always wanted to know what goes on in a strip club! An enjoyable romp on the wild side, I'm looking forward to see what Simone Kirsch and her alter-ego gets up to in the next book!
To be returned to aleonblue once I've finished reading Rubdown.
