I found this book at the Sacto. Red Cross while working. I'm a reader so I have to admit, at first,
I thought about stealing it when I saw nobody was around. But my AA expierence reminded of the quote about integrety, you know, it's when nobody is watching that defines whether you (or I) have it or not. Anyway, when I saw the Book Crossing sticker on the inside and read it I was gitty happy and took it home.
It took me a while to read this book as it usually dose. However it didn't really capture my intrigue until almost half way through, all that dribble about moaral Philosophy and boot camp and stuff. Allthough I have to admit, I did start to get into it. And right before I read the last page I re-rented the movie. BINGO it became exciting and had meaning!
The movie lacked the depth that the book provided and had all the action the book, I felt, was missing. Together they made a great team unlike a lot of other books that were made into movies, ie that last Tom Clancy movie.
Anyway, the book did make me think about politics as we now know it, and even though I'm not a vetern the ideas about citizenship really do make sense in a big way. The book made me think out of my little world and after all, well speaking for myself, that's why I like to read.
I'll leave this book in Chico CA tomorrow 1/31/06. I hope whoever finds it will watch the movie also.
