The Silmarillion

I decided to find some bestsellers from the year I was born, 1977. This book topped the bestsellers list for that year according to this website-

I am going to release the bestsellers I find, including this one, on my birthday this year, July 29. I challenged others to do the same on Bookcrossing and it has sparked some interest so other bookcrossers will be doing the same on their birthdays. Here is the link to info about that-
Birthday Bestseller Release Challenge
I must admit, I have not read this book. I am not a big sci-fi fan. Hopefully someone who is will find the book and love it or know someone who they would like to share it with. My husband and oldest son love Lord of the Rings and they have already read and enjoyed it.
The cover on my copy is different from the one pictured here.

You must understand something: my friends and I are political junkies. Assembled from across the country in DC for the summer, we needed a break from this crazy town for the weekend. And what better way to escape partisan politics inside the beltway than drive to Ohio to volunteer for a good ol' fashioned mud-slinging election? We found ourselves in the middle of Ohio's 2nd congressional district, campaigning for Paul Hackett in the special election to take place tomorrow, Tues Aug 2nd. After much door-knocking, we needed some definite caloric intake and accordingly found a cute local place with pulled meat sandwiches. It was clearly a tourist stop with many photo opportunities including train dining car turned ice cream shop and a myriad of pig statues. We thought the 5 foot statue of pork most appropriate for a quick pic and lo! What should we find beneath the ham's snout than...a traveling book! Much giggles were had before returning to the campaign. On our return trip to DC late last night, we hotly debated where amidst this great city of site-seers our beloved book would be most likely to find a new and loving trusty guide.
PS--I've always wanted to read The Silmarillion. Thanks for the excuse, bookcrossing.com!
