This was a shocking and enlightening book. The author was a victim of child abuse at the hands of her red-neck parents. Her mother has munchausen syndrome by proxy and has her daughter on a cocktail of drugs and has her traipse from doctor to doctor to get to the bottom of a phantom illness. What amazed me was how long it took Julie to really realise that she had been abused, to her as a child what went on in her family was entirely normal, when it was horrifying and appalling. Not an easy read, but worth it for understanding how complex issues of abuse really are.

Picked up at July's BC Meet in York. Not sure if I really want to read this one. I'm sure it's interesting, but the subject matter is SO grim, I'm not sure I can face it. We'll have to see...

OK, I *have* gone off reading this book...!

I think (in this instance, at least) I've had enough trauma in my own childhood - there's a limit to how much of other people's I can take on!!!

Planning to take this back to a future York Meet...

I am brazilian, I was in york city with my husband for vacation . We went to a pub for dinner and had the opportunity to meet a group of people exchanging books. I really enjoyed to know about the book crossing . It's a quite nice idea to became a member of this group. I had no books to swop at the time, but they were very gentle and gave me two books as a gift. I will pass these books first to my kids and ask them to give to somebody else after reading.
Wonderful experience on the other side of the world, meet people and get books.
