Part of a job lot of books from L & S who were having a sort out. :)

This book is seriously 6cm thick, and I applaud anyone who attempts to read it - if I kept it, there is a door in my house which would be positively wedged open!!!

It portrays Russian family life during and after the Napoleonic War. His faith in life and his piercing insight lend universality to a work which holds the mirror up to Nature as truly as those of Shakespeare or Homer.

This reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld in which Elaine has been told Tolstoy was toying with an alternative title - "War: what is it good for" - which she relates to a Russian author with comical results.

Anyway, this classic has been reserved for gypsyrose02.

as this book is still in storage (along with most of my other books), I bought a second copy. This copy will go to a fellow aussie bcer as soon as i can get my hands on it.
