I bought this on 7/4 at Powell's City of Books in Portland, OR for $7.99.

c. 1985 -- 343 pages -- Paperback -- Volume III in the NY Times Bestselling Riftwar Saga

Back Cover: The riddle of Silverthorn. A poisoned bolt has struck down the Princess Anita on the day of her wedding to the Prince Arutha of Krondor.

To save his beloved, Arutha sets out in search of the mystic herb called Silverthorn that grows only in the dark and forbidding Northlands, home to the moredhel, the deadly Dark Elves.

Accompanied by a mercenary, a minstrel, and a clever young thief, he will confront an ancient evil and do battle with the dark powers that threaten the enchanted realm of Midkemia.

I finished reading this book today (2/9). I enjoyed the story of Prince Aruther and Princess Anita preparing for their wedding. As well as the Duke's relationship with Jimmy the Hand. A few things bothered me which caused my lower rating of 7/10. The side story of magician Pug (which I loved in the first book) seemed in the way or just there to update the series. I thought Anita was suspended in time for too long while Aruther searched for silverthorn. At times it seemed wrong that Jimmy knew so much more than the others. I get that he was street smart, but that doesn't include cave knowledge.
