"Something is a little off in old Stepford, notes Joanna, a recent transplant from the City. The women in town are uncomplaining cleaner-uppers of soap scum and ironers of husbands' shirts (and they actually seem to enjoy it), they look and behave like frightening, childlike dolls, and they are so blandly polite (in the way I imagine, fairly or not, Jackie O. to have been) that it's impossible for Joanna to recognize them as entirely human. But wait a minute — there's this newspaper clipping Joanna finds, a few years old now, about a feminist-leaning women's group in town, at whose event none other than Betty Friedan came to speak. And then Joanna sees her once-cool friend Bobbie sort of...changing. Becoming, maybe, the wife her husband wants her to be?"

21 July 05: a nice read and even scary towards the end of the book. The book is now with jade405.

I read this book last week and I enjoyed it very much. I liked the idea and the way all the 'warning signs' were downplayed, and you only realised what is going on in the end. Great ending, too.

Seems to have been delayed in the post, but received this morning. I've never seen the movie, so I'm looking forward to reading this one. Thanks.

A slightly dated horror, but an effective one, nonetheless. I have read Rosemary's baby, and the style here was very similar.

A good choice for the surprise ring, and I enjoyed it. Thank you.
