True Tales of American Life
4 journalers for this copy...
This is not a novel by Paul Auster. This is a collection of true stories written by about 180 authors for a weekly radio show presented by Paul Auster.
These stories are emotional, mysterious, touching, funny, sometimes difficult to read, entertaining, heartbreaking, and full of love and kindness. I don't know if I ever read a book that shows in such an extensive way aspects of humanity and life. The parts that I remember most vividly, are accounts about life, and how it should or should not be. Accounts that hint at what it is that makes us human. These are stories from an America that we rarely get to see these days; an America very different from George W. Bush and the likes; an America that we can only hope will not seize to exist and not be forgotten.

I have already read some of the stories and so I could not resist to take this book with me to read some more.
Thanks for the book, Dolphus!
Thanks for the book, Dolphus!
Now I read most of the stories, and I still like the idea of the book a lot. The stories are of different themes and quality. But as they are really short, it does not matter if you do not like them all.
The stories are from all over the US, and they are from different social classes and ethnical groups. The sum of the story really gives a vivid impression of today's America. Thank you for the book, Dolphus!
Probably, I will take the book to the next meetup at Zurich.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
In the gatehouse
In the gatehouse
My family and I are in Cambridge, MA (again) as my husband travels for his consulting career. My son and I and our pugs tag along as often as we can. What a wonderful surprise to find this book in the gatehouse!
Being a Canadian I saw the title and rolled my eyes... GREAT I thought... a book to tell me how to be a good American.
I read the first couple of stories while my preschooler played candyland in the gatehouse of our hotel and I'm looking forward to reading the rest and sending it on its merry way...
I'm already thinking of where a good place to release this book will be.
As I said, I haven't read the whole thing yet, but so far so good...the stories are very easy to get into and not long and drawn out (like this review..haha).
Who would have thought... a catch and release program for books! Wonderful! Thanks for passing the book along Dolphus!
