from the back cover:

This is Manderley - notorious, ridden by evil. Its mistress, Rebecca de Winter, has been dead for eight months - drowned in a sailing accident. She was glamorous and adored. But through the frightened eyes of Rebecca's successor at Manderley - Maxim de Winter's shy young second wife - we come to know Rebecca as she really was. We realize, with horror, the power she holds over Manderley even in death, and we watch her satanic curse paralyze Maxim de Winter's love for his new wife. Then, suddenly, a dramatic and bold revelation shatters Rebecca's spell...

Here is a moving love story and an unforgettable gallery of characters, a romance so breath-taking, so haunting, that it stands as a giant among modern novels.

what a GREAT old 75 cent copy of this paperback! It is so NICE to get a previously registered BC book through PBS. And it is twice as much fun when it turns up from someone you KNOW!!!
Thanks, App.

I loved this book and I am so glad that I paid attention when I heard others say that it was one of their favorite books of all time! I can see why. What a remarkable tale, one that I will not soon forget. The first line of the book continues to haunt me. "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" I will be dreaming of Manderely, too.

I received this today as a nice post-Christmas present! This book was on my wishlist because it's ranked as BBC #14, which I'm trying to get through. I saw part of the movie on tv late one night (black and white version - I'm not sure if there's a newer version?). Anyways, thanks so much for sending this to me!
